Smiley Is this name too strange?

i know i'm not supposed to request names, but this isn't a request... i have a specific name that i think i want to use, but i'm not sure if it's too weird or not... it's the name of my World of Warcraft character, lol...

    Sephyr.

it's pronounced Seh-fur, like Zephyr with an S... so what do you think? too weird, or a good idea?

just keep in mind that you're going to have to explain it over and over every night.

    hmmm
not very sexy, hard to remember...
What about something close to it... I used to go by "sapphire". But do whatever makes you feel sexy.

why would i have to explain it every night? i just put the pronunciation on here since you couldn't hear it.
i like it because i think it sounds really feminine and different... i think it sounds sexy. but it doesn't?

I think it sounds sexy, but in a loud club someone might think you are saying Zephyr or Sapphire.

What about "Seraphim" or "Saffron" or "Sapphire"? They ave th same "S" and a "F" sound with an "R" thrown in but are easier to pronounce. Remember that you are going to be dealing with drunk men and that gives them A.) Limited verbal usage. B.) Extremely poor short term memory. Also remember most clubs are loud.

i think Sephyr is easy to say, since it rolls right off the toungue... i'm fairly sure i want to use this, and not another name...
basically, i guess what i wanted to know is if i will get a bad reaction to this name. i just want to know if it sounds stupid, since i made it up. =P

It will be hard to hear over club music. Say it aloud and listen: it sounds like a whisper. Everyone's going to think you're saying Sapphire, so you should probably just go with Sapphire or come up with something easier to hear and say. You're going to be shouting this name over loud music to drunk guys who don't really care about your name anyway, so there's no point going by anything difficult or unusual.

I don't think you will get a bad reaction or sound stupid from it. I think stage names are made too big of a deal about and most guys are not even really paying attention to it. Just don't be surprised if guys mispronounce it and can't remember it.

You should pick a normal persons name that will be easier to remember. Guys dont have relationships with Zephers they have relationships with chics like Jessica. Its much easier to connect with a real girl like a Jessica than a obvious fake name like Zepher.

fake? i was considering for a while to name my first daughter Sephyr... obviously i won't do that if i choose it for a stripper name, but i just don't see how it's "obviously fake." =(

Ok lets make it simple. Ive met all kinds of girls from Carmens to Natalies to Babys to Avas. Guys want to feel like they can get to know a girl and have a great time with her. Its much easier to have a guy think of happy memories with a girl named Natalie than of a girl named Zepher.

For example: At one club my name is Michelle. One day these construction guys came in and one of them was head over heals for me. Turned out he had an ex-gf whom he still loved who was named Michelle and even tattooed her name in his lower back. It was a large black ink tattoo about 5x8 inches. We had several dances together and he remembered my name to say goodbye before he left.

Of course its not all in a name. Its just part of the whole sha-bang. Hell, if you can make Zepher work for you do it.

It just doesn't sound like the name of someone you would meet in real life.

I have been working with drunk guys now for quite sometime. (I spent the entire summer as a bartender and I have served alcoholic drinks before that) they WILL mess up your name. I really just don't think having a name that will be fumbled over and over is worth it. Also they will not remember your name for more than 5 seconds. They do that a lot with even common, simple names as well but because of your name's unique nature it would probably happen more often. But if you are die hard about this name, go for it. I think within 2 weeks you will have changed your name to something else.

You WILL end up having to explain it every night. I see that a lot as a customer ....people always seem to ask the girls "Where'd you get that name?" or "What does that mean?" ....those types of questions. And the point about having to say it over loud music is right on. You'll have to repeat yourself several times throughout the night if it's even a semi-loud club. From a sales-aspect, you'd be better off thinking of something more 'normal'.

The -UR part of the pronounciation is taking away from the femininity of the name, really. And be prepared to be called Sapphire, Sulfur, Zeppelin, etc.... When you mix loud music, really fast DJ speak, and drunk men... you will get known as everything BUT your name when you have a non-name name. And I say non-name because it really isnt a reognized name. Anywhere. Not listed in any baby names list, even ethnic ones, no google searches turn it up as anything but a screen name on forums and RPGs. When I run into customers outside of the club and they ask about another girl, they have a hard enough time remembering familiar names... "Hey do you know that one girl.... Maria... Melissa... um... Mary? Something like that?" And yes, you will be explaining it. Often. Most of the unrecognized names or object names get asked about 20 times a night. Hell... even I have to explain mine here and there!

No one is saying not to use it... or that it will kill your cash intake... but it isnt going to be a name that the customers are going to recall.

^ Like the Saffron on Ab-Fab? I think she's kind of hot in a nerdy way.
BTW- don't take it personally, but you will get annoyed having to go into an explanation of your stage name every night. Trust me. Just like you will get tired of answering other questions over and over such as "How tall are you?" Why did you become a dancer" "What do you like to do for fun?" "Do you have a boyfriend?" "What's your real name?"

At least if you give yourself a believable name, it removes one annoying question from the mix. No customer will ever appreciate the time and planning you put into your stage name. (I named myself after Ava Gardner and NO ONE cares.) Save it for your daughter.

Ha. I can kinda imagine some mum telling her child that it's name came from her stripping stage name. 'I was Jessica at Deja Vu and that's why your name is Jessica honey.'

No, the name sounds kind of harsh. not feminine or sexy at all, if anytihng, it sounds kind of on the ugly side(just being honest).

Sephyr is not only a horrible name but is perhaps the worst name I have ever heard in my entire life. Also, never mention warcraft at the club. If I wanted to hear about that crap I'd go to Comic Con or a star trek convention or some shit like that. Sorry to be harsh, but this point cannot be stressed enough. I am giving you money by telling you this.

LOL!!! It's true though!!!! I agree! Simple names are definitely good (although mine wasn't simple, I guess I know from experience then, lol). It's infuriating to constantly explain your name to customers "why'd you pick it, what does it mean, what was that again..." The focus should not be on your name but on building a relationship with the customer!! I like unique names but that one is a little out there.

    Yikes. Sephyr was shot down.

I say go for it. Use it if you like it. Whatever. There are worse names, read that thread in the Stripping forum. You can always change it to Amber whenever you want.

my stage name is cali. fairly simple, right? real enough. it fits me well and i'm from there. half the guys i meet think it's kelly. half the time i don't even bother to correct them anymore.

i agree with Tiger'sMilk; names that sound real have a special appeal. plus fewer guys will harrass you about what your real name is...

I have one more gem to add. If a guy came in and told you his name was Warlock would you even take his money or would you get the hell away? I'm betting that most would make some excuse and leave for a more normal customer.

Sephyr: "Great to meet you. I'm Sephyr."

"Hey didn't we meet in World of Warcraft?"

"Oh my god, that was you?"

"You killed off my character! You b#$$!!!"

    "Don't you want dances??!!"
