I'm NOT a fan of permanent makeup. that said, the 1 big no-no (IMHO) is getting permanent eyeliner under your eyes (I think it often looks bad rather than good), and also getting your lips lined with a dark color- have her use a lighter, more natural flesh tone, so you won't look cartoon-y weird when you're not wearing makeup. I would go with a lighter color- browns, etc- rather than blues and blacks (and blacks often fade to a navy-ish color). Again, they look more natural when you're not wearing makeup, and don't interfere with your regular makeup as much, and serves to enhace your features- rather than scream "permanent makeup!"
Be sure to go to someone that sterilizes equipment, and be sure to get referrals and look at their work and be happy with it before you let them touch your face.

My brows and upper lashline are permanently enhanced and it was worth every penny. My brows were done in hairline strokes, she tattooed individual hairs so the result is quite natural, even when the rest of my face is naked. The eyeliner is only on my upper lids and she actually inked in the lashes which gives the effect of fuller lashes and a natural definition. Again, all undetectable. People are floored when I tell 'em it's permanent cosmetic.
As with any other cosmetic precedure, do your research! Ask tons of questions and consult with at least three artits before choosing one.

I'm not a fan because I've just seen so much not-so-good work. I'm glad you like your results and found a skilled professional. Would you care to share who did your permanent makeup?

She makes you draw in your brows like you'd normally do, then she inks over it with a disposible needle. No free hand stuff, the result is as natural or intense as her client wants.
I can't speak from direct experience, but my mother had this done, pretty much exactly in the way that Mia described. I think the whole technique has come a long way since it first debuted - it's a very subtle and natural effect, very enhancing of her existing features.Originally Posted by Mia M
She doesn't use a lot of makeup, and what she does use is very natural, and yet she basically got sick and tired of doing the exact same things to her face every single cottonpickin' day, and finally thought, well, why not just get it done once and for all and be DONE with it!?! Now she just adds a little more shading in, and maybe some colors for more special occasions, and she loves it! I know she'd vouch for it. And she definitely had it done in a cosmetic surgery office.

My mother had it done as well with a light reddish brown on her eyebrows and undereye. Looks good.

I wish this place was in the east coast, or a place like it. I'd do it. This looks very good.Originally Posted by Mia M

This is what my brows and eyes look like sans makeup...

I had the eye liner and lipliner done recently, and it looks great. The eye liner is light brown, and a very thin line. The lipliner is a nude color, and the best thing about it is that you can make your lips look fuller by having this procedure.A few of my girlfriends are going to have it done too.
very very stupid question for you-- do you shave your brows often then, after having them tattooed? im curious about this-- mia's brows look awesome, but is there any real hair there? sorry again for such a dumb question!

Not a stupid question... No, I've never had to shave my brows. Not even when I had them done. I just tweeze anything that falls outside the ink.

Damn, Mia. That looks really good. Natural!

Did you get it done in NY?Originally Posted by rusdancer

Some look a little intense, but that's because the pics were taken fresh after a procedure. In two weeks, your brows heal and look normal.

Oh goody, thx.Originally Posted by Mia M

I can't believe how much of a difference the newer tattooed brows look now, compare to the old tattooing. Big difference.
So what does it feel like?
I have heaps of regular tattoos - does it feel like that or do they use a numbing agent?
Maybe a silly question, but i'm very curious.
I'd totally get it done...

I know that a lot of times, numbing agents are used, and sometimes, sedatives when it's done at a doc's office.

I had a topicla numbing agent, but I could still feel pressure and occasional pinching. definately not pleasant, but worth it.
