Exclamation Question from a First Time Dancer

I got a tattoo about 2 1/2 weeks ago, and the stuff they gave me to keep it moist gave me a slight rash. I switched to Neosporin as soon as I saw it. Its been 2 weeks now, and the rash is still there but not as bad. I have to work tonight... what can I do to cover up the redness on my back?

I wouldnt put anything on it. I only say that b/c putting something on the tat could cause more irratation is not good. Also, I wouldnt go to work tonight either because of all the germs at work. Where is your tat? How big is it?

Maybe you can just wear a giant bandaid over it if its small enough.

Are you concerned about customers seeing the rash, or still trying to get rid of it? Most of the times with the black lights you can not even see red. A know a lot of girls who go tanning, get burned real red, and you can’t see it at all.

If you are looking for something to cover it up, try Dermablend, your local drugstore may have it.

And don't put Neosporin on a tattoo ever. Don't use anything petrolium based on a tattoo, it clogs the poors.

You might want to go see your doctor or dermatologist about it to make sure you don't get a bad infection or allergic reaction to the ink.

Actually all my husband and I use on our tatts is neosporin. It works fine for us, my husband has a full sleeve (four visits so far) and has used neosporin every time and not only does it heal faster but the color is better. We've both consulted with our tattoo artists about using it and they never told us not to.

What were you using that gave you a rash?

I used an actual specific tattoo creame, forgot what it was called... had letters as part of the name.

I would not put anything on it! I will go to see my doctor. Because the skin is already has been like that for 2 days . I will go to the doctor and see what he/she say?

about 1 in 10 people are allergic to neosporin, I'm one, and have a much worse scar because a trauma nurse reccomended it for my burn.

I haven't gone to a doctor yet just because I honestly don't have the time between college and dancing, but I did stop putting Neosporin on it. It was something called Aquaphor that I used first, and I have talked to a few people locally who are allergic as well.

Thank ya'll so much for all the helpful advice. I know some tattoo artists do not recommend Neosporin, but mine says its ok as long as I did not use Vaseline.

My back is much better and you couldn't even tell in the black lights my first night. I just made sure to keep it very clean, away from the bars, poles, and tables, and everything had worked out well.

    Thanks again! ~Sapphire
