Default illusion of a smaller nose?

I was watching one of those make over shows, and they said that the lady they were working on had a prominent nose. In order to reduce its appearance they used darker powder (or something) from the eyebrows down the sides of her nose to the tip. Now I know I don't have that completely right, does any one know what I'm talking about or how to reduce a nose non surgically with make up?

    Jillian,

She was basically using countouring techniques to make the nose seem less prominent. Generally speaking, it's more used for film and photography. Countour- using shadow- makes areas seem less prominent. highlight brings out features. The easiest way is to use a powder about 1/2 shade darker and lighter to highlight/contour. Most of the time for photography and film, it's common to use both foundation and powder.

I posted an overexaggerated pic on the location of highlighters/contours for makeup:

All of Kevyn's books are really good. Yeah, that's his sister Carla- poor thing, she lost her best friend and brother. I still miss the beautiful man that was Kevyn.

    RIP, Kevyn...

BTW, when you're contouring in real life and NOT for the camera, be very, very subtle. Otherwise, you end up looking like there's dirt on your face.

yeah,i just read he had a pituitary tumor, and died from those complications. i keep reading about tori amos in all of the articles related to him, were they extremely close? she is in everything, even articles not about his death. he had a great family that didn't bat an eyelash at his homosexuality. i'm gonna look on half.com for his other two books, didn't know about them either!

Back when I was an active makeup artist, (over 10 years ago), I admired him, and I still do. He was very, very close to Tori- I think he was a godfather to her baby.

His other books are also awesome.

I just learned this technique in stage makeup class today. We used a creamy brownish color to do as the diagram posted above does. Works well!

I've actually thought about offering lessons to people. I don't know if I'll do it full-time. I 'm not sure I want to go through the hassle of working with asshole art directors, hungry and cranky models, egomaniac photographers, etc again. I'll keep doing weddings and pet projects for people I know and like, but I'm not sure if I want a primary *career* in it.

Kevin Acoin is FABULOUS! Haha oops, spelled his name wrong, can't remember how it goes exactly, but I have his book "making Faces" and it's so great, I love him! Definately worth the money to go buy it, it taught me a lot
