    Thumbs up Refrigerated Cookie Dough

I've been depressed and having a hard time of things (again). Going to the gym every day has helped some, but today my boyfriend and I went to the store for the only cheap shitty food we can afford right now, and we got an impulse to buy a roll of refrigerated cookie dough. I don't even bother to cook it. It's oatmeal chocolate chip and I just ate a big old slice of it, nice and raw. I feel better already. Nothing's better than cookie dough!

    What's your favorite junky treat?

Most dark chocolates will work for me. Most of my Happy Foods arent junky though. When I'm down I go more for sushi, raw fruits, etc... but yeah. Gimmie some super dark chocolate with fruit in it... life is good.

I'm the same way, Paige. I very rarely crave sugar. My idea of the ultimate in comfort food is turnip greens with deep-fried hotwater cornbread. I eat fresh fruit every day and would live on it if possible, so that doesn't really count as a treat with me, and that's usually plenty enough sweets.

I also love fried cheese sticks, fried pickles, fried tofu, just about anything deep-fried...

But there's nothing like refrigerated cookie dough maybe once or twice a year. And hey, this has oatmeal in it, and oatmeal is good for you, right?

Dammit you ladies are making me hungyr, dark chocolate sounds great. I'd love salmon sushi, and weel since we are on the topic of fried foods, fired olives or okra would be nice.

Yek, I make cookie dough for my son about once a week. He loves it in dough form. He likes the cookies, and making them but he likes making the dough with me more. Especially the tasting. We usually do just plain sugar cookies. The other day he insisted we make cookie dough and went and found all the ingredients in the house. The only thing he could not find was in a different container, and even I did not know bottles of vanilla came in boxes.

That's cute. And I agree with your son, the dough is WAY better than the cookies!

Vyanka, you'd like a recipe I used to make for company when I was married and entertained...

Put a small coffee plate on a sheet of phyllo dough and cut around it until you have a circle of phyllo dough for everyone. In a bowl, mix some thin slices of red apple with a tablespoon of cinnamon. Brush the phyllo dough circles with heated honey, put them on a cookie sheet, and arrange the cinnamon apple slices in flower shapes so that they cover the top of each dough circle. Bake 20 minutes at 350 F or until the edges of the dough are puffy and golden brown. Top with vanilla bean ice cream (or cinnamon ice cream) and serve immediately.

Super-easy, and company goes batshit for it.

Sounds good to me mate! But I like strawberries more. Fresh, juicy, and if good enough on thier own, if not, hav'em with a tad of balsmic vinegar, and sugar, then put on what Aussies call thick cream. That Aussise double thick cream will pack the pounds or kilos on in less time than it did for me to write this sentence.

junior mints....i sometimes indulge and have a small box (if i'm PMSing, or need a sugar rush before class i'll have one for breakfast). of course, i also have 2 scrambled eggs for the protein in an attempt to rationalize the mints, but ah well.

OMG. I miss Australian whipped cream. I hate the whipped cream we get over here, but that Aussie stuff... especially the King Island cream.

I also miss Australian pancakes... piping hot and crispy on the edges, topped with hot maple syrup and ice cream with whipped cream on the side. I can't believe they eat that for breakfast, but damn it does make a good dessert.

-god gammed I'm going to try that too.

Welll if you guys ever make your own sugar cookie dough, it is highly reommended you add about 1 teaspoon of vanilla, and 1/2 tea spoon of cinnamon. It is amazing how much the taste will improve. I used to more cinnamon, but I found just a little less was better.

American "whipped cream" is a bunch of chemicals and air with a little dairy product. In Australia, it's just like ice cream but it isn't cold. It's sort of like whipped butter but much lighter. It even looks like ice cream. I can't explain it better than that; I just know it's delicious.

I hate Australian food but they do have the sweets down pat. What I wouldn't do for an iced chocolate right now! Or an Aussie iced coffee! Or a Lamington, or a spicy fruit mince pie...

I've used the double thick in my scalloped potatoes... heaven but at a price.

I was curious, and Google came through:

    Double cream

This is the most versatile type of fresh cream, it can be used as it is or whipped. Double cream contains 48% fat.

Uses: It can be used as a pouring cream over fruit and puddings, used in cooking or whipped and incorporated into dishes or served separately. Whipped double cream can be spooned or piped on to desserts and cakes.

My take-away from that? 48% fat = use with caution

I think I'd prefer dark chocolate. And a nice bottle of red wine. Though now my culinary interests have been piqued with various uses for double cream ...
