    Default Food phases

Does anyone else go through food phases- where literally all you want to eat, for weeks on end, is one particular food?

Once for me it was dried apricots. My longest phase- 6+ months- was grapes. Swiss cheese was another one. Right now it's Cheerios- has been 2 weeks.

I don't get it! When I'm in a phase, no matter how much I get of the food- and I HAVE gone whole days only eating that food, though of course I try not to- I still want more!

The logical conclusion is that my body wants something that the food offers...but Cheerios?

Some people process certain substances & experiences better if they have a consistent pattern of consumption/routine.
I get teased for doing the "same" thing all the time- same meals at restaurants, same shoes all the time, etc.
You're trying to balance your diet while on a "one" thing kick, right?
It could be a form of Obessessive Compulsive Disorder.

I do this too. For the entire summer and now I have had a peanut power smoothie from smoothie king almost everyday. Even though I was eating other foods as well I fell like I had to have my smoothie everyday and will go out of my way to make time to go to smoothie king so much to the point that my family was making fun of me.

I do the same thing. For a while it was a grilled egg sandwich (maybe two weeks) , I'm always that way with tea, almond butter (while we were in Scotland) and like 2 weeks after, and I can't think of more.

Yes, for me it's red meat (usually eeewwww for me) and Apples and peanut butter. I think the apples and peanut butter were my breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 2 weeks. My new craving/love is scrambled eggs with smoked salmon...mmmmm...I'm gonna go make some now!!

People make fun of me too like maxine for eating the same thing at the same places multiple times a week. I can't help it, just how it goes; at least I'm eating, right?

I call it Ozzy Syndrome after I saw him obsessed with eating Chipotle burritos for weeks on The Osborns...

I just weened myself off of my guacamole kick. Before that, it was "the med salad" from Noodles & Co. Right now, I'm really trying to keep myself thinking about buffalo wings.

for a while i was obsessed with peanut butter and maple syrup sandwiches. this always happens to me, i'll start eating something everyday, i think about it just before going to bed and wake up wanting it straight away. the only way i find i can deal with it is to ban myself from it completely - my friends all tell me i have amazing willpower to do it, but i have this box, undermy bed, it's easy to shove stuff into but a total pain in the arse to get stuff out, so when there's something i can't stop eating, it goes in that box. to me that box is forbidden, i'm not allowed to eat what's in it. so when i was eating peanut butter and maple syrup all day, those 2 things went in the box. haven't touched it since. right now the box contains dutch spiced cookies, honey jumbles, lindt 85% and creamy dark chocolate, maple syrup, peanut butter, and a jar of honey...

Yeah, that's totally what I do!

Ahh, I feel so normal now

I will reward myself for my normalcy with Cheerios.

The logical reason behind this would be that you are missing some essential nutrient and your craving is of a food that provides that nutrient. But then, sometimes the craving doesn't at all match the defeciency. Anemic people, for example, get some weird cravings like ice cubes and dirt!!

My craving is grilled cheese sandwhiches. I ate them every meal for 2 weeks straight. I've forced myself off that kick this month, (even though a grilled cheese does sound soooo good right now!) because theres no way I can meet all my nutritional needs on grilled cheese and tomato soup alone.

If your craving is for something other than a quick sugar/carbs rush you may want to give your diet a check-up, something may be missing!

*Edit* After reading and thinking about this thread, I think I've figured out why I'm so obsessed with grilled cheese. My meds(Accutane) put a strain on my liver, when the liver is overworked it uses up more calicium---Hence my constant grilled cheese craving!! Maybe it is good to give into these cravings after all! Great thread.

Yeah, I'm like this too, but I can eat other things...just will crave at least one meal of whatever the obsession is. Right now I *heart* cheese sandwichs. Just bread and melted cheddar. I think cuz I couldn't digest cheese for a year and now I can and I crazy love it? I think I need to go have one now...
