I signed up for the "free trial" around two or more years ago....sent a polite email requesting cancellation at the end of the trial because it wasn't quite what I wanted...I hate portals...only want an "on-ramp" to the 'Net.
Got a bill long ago and sent another polite email...then forgot about it until now...they're trying to collect four months worth of usage from me, when I didn't touch it after sending the cancel request email.
Recently received a letter from NCO Financial Systems...called them earlier, and verbally-speaking, nearly "took the CSR's head off." I wouldn't have been nearly so furious, but I lost it hearing yet another CSR with an Indian accent.
Didn't calm down much, especially when I asked to speak to his supervisor. His supervisor was "in a meeting" according to him - yeah, right. as though I'll believe that crap! Just made me angrier.
He said he noted on the system I'm disputing the charges. Well, as I told him at the end of our "conversation," without calming down that much, he was told, "If AOL attempts to collect one cent of this, I'll do whatever I have to do to cost AOL one hundred customers." And I will do exactly that. It's over less than $100.00, but that isn't the real problem for me. I have 'effing HAD IT with businesses which pull this crap, so it's time to start fighting back in ways that will cost these rumpwipe businesses a whole lot more, financially-speaking, than they'll ever gain by pursuing these types of collections.
I'm not sure, but should a call be made to AOL telling them of my response, if they attempt to collect one penny of these funds?
