    Default Minerals Question

I just got my Bare Minerals starter kit in the mail today, and I've been playing around with it. Maybe I'm not doing it right, or not using enough, but it seems like it's not giving me much coverage. I'm afraid that if I use too much that it won't last the 2 months until I get my next shipment, but right now I'm not getting much coverage with it. It just seems like any other face powder- I'm not getting the coverage of a foundation. I know there are girls on here who use Bare Minerals- do you get good coverage with it? It's kept my face shine-free, which is great, but I don't know if I should just layer more of it on.

    Do you moisturize beforehand?

^^^ I use Neutrogena shine control moisturizer every day, and make sure I let it soak in before I put on makeup. Are you supposed to moisturize before you put it on or no? I know that Bare Minerals makes some kind of lotion that you apply before the mineral foundation, but its $20. Do you think I should try that?

You can also use a smaller shader brush to conceal spots. Just dab it into the mineral makeup and apply to the spot with plenty of powder, then just lightly buff over it with the face brush and a little of the mineral powder.

Unless your normally oily, I recommend using moisturizer. It doesn't matter what brand as long as it's one that works well for your skin.

What are the problems that you can't get enough coverage for?

I have one breakout right now that I can't seem to cover, and then I have some discoloration scars on my cheeks that I can't get covered. They are starting to fade a bit, so they aren't extremely dark, but I can't cover them.

Try dabbing the spots with a little extra like I mentioned. If that doesn't help, try a different brand, this one is pretty good, http://www.everydayminerals.com/ and you can have them send you free samples.

If you want you can try using a concealer with it, underneath, it won't hurt anything. Bare Escentuals may not be right for you, some people just don't like this brand, it works well for some and not for others. Personally I get a bad reaction to the Bismuth they put in it.

Thanks for your help! I guess I'll just keep playing around with it and trying different things to try to get coverage. If I end up not liking it I'll just cancel the auto-delivery.

Sure, everyday minerals have formulas with different coverages too, BTW.

^^^ Yeah I'm looking at their site right now. I think I might order their free sample kit- all I have to pay is $4 for shipping.

Hey do you think it would help if I used a makeup primer like Smashbox Photo Finish or something similar before I apply the minerals?

If you mix a teeny bit of minerals with moisturizer (teeny bit!), you can get some good spot coverage.

I don't know, I don't use primers but I think that they help to smooth out your skin more than cover blemishes. You could try it though.

Most primers are silicone based, so I would think they wouldn't help... you use moisturizer so the oils will grab your minerals. On the other hand, primers tend to smooth out the skin, and silicone is there to give slip (smoothness) and not grab...

I admit I don't think the minerals give enough coverage for my liking, but I've gotten used to professional makeup and being able to cover tattoos... so my standards for makeup is quite different!

I use bare minerals. I got that vitamin stuff that the say to use before hand. I hadn't notice it made such a difference whilst using the make-up, but I do like the stuff. I always use it, even now when I don't use foundation. It's made my skin healthier somehow.

I didn't like those fluffy brushes they give to apply the minerals. I think they're good for the warmth and the mineral veil, but not the foundation. Bare minerals sell a more traditional foundation brush and that gave me the best coverage.

The brush is pretty expensive, but not when compared to the same style of brush from other companies.

    Good luck!

I had this problem too, when I first switched from liquid foundation to the bare minerals. You could see my acne (and I had plenty of it) through the makeup. Truthfully, I just lived with it for a while, but then, my skin got much clearer because the minerals are much better for most people with acne prone skin. But I did also get better at using it. Anyways.. some tips, get yourself a concealer brush. If you want, they also sell a concealer...which is a little thicker and better at covering than the foundation, but you can still apply foundation w/ the concealer brush and it helps a lot. Either way, you have to conceal..put the foundation on, then retouch the spots with either more foundation or concealer. I use translucent loose powder by NYC (cheap) underneath my makeup to control oil, and I think it helps with the coverage a bit too. You get used to using the minerals, do be careful that if you put too much on, it gives a weird sheen and then you have take some off. The best way is to apply several light layers instead of one thick one. Finally, one thing that was just suggested to me at Sephora the other day was, I might be wearing the wrong color, haha. I am currently wearing Medium, but it is very very pink, and the Sephora person said that if I switched to Medium Beige, which has more yellow in it, that it would counteract my redness better. I have yet to try that tho..I want to finish my Medium, perfect match or not! Sorry this is so long..good luck!

get your big fluffy brush wet under the faucet and dry it lightly so its wet but not sopping wet. then apply to your face, it goes on like foundation.

Just an update.... I played around with the Bare Minerals and just didn't like the results, so I ordered the free sample kit from Everyday Minerals, and just got it today, and I love it!! The coverage is much better than the Bare Minerals brand, and it controls oil and shine much better too. I just ordered a regular full size kit from them, and hope I get it soon!!
