Girls!!! What are your weight loss secrets?! Have you ever tried anything that worked really well and really fast?
yeah, juice fasting
I'm on one now. It really does work.
Don't you regain the weight when you come off the fast though?

i always did, b/c i would get so hungry i would have to eat normal food. i find that just keeping track of my calories works the best-i try to eat AT MOST 1800/day, and that is on the days when i work. when i am not working i try to eat less because i am being less active.
Why do you want to lose weight fast? Weight lost quickly is also easily put right back on once the diet ends.
Yeah fast weight loss will cause you to crash and burn...I lost about 4 kg through crash dieting and making myself suffer immensely, and any, ANY sort of blow out day would pile the weight back on. However I lost a further 4 kg through going to the gym 4-5 times a week and cutting out take away, processed and convenience food, and that weight has stayed off, I had yum cha on friday and completely pigged out yesterday but I'm ok, because I'm active all the time and 9/10 I eat well.
And I never stop eating. I can't go more than 2 hours without eating...

Raw foods. I've been eating just raw fruits and veggies and sprouted grains and cooked meat/fish for about 2 weeks and I've lost 2 inches in my waist and hips. My friends been doing it for 10 weeks and has lost 5 inches from her waist.
For fast fast weight loss I would do Emily's juice fast and then follow up with raw food.
do you need a juicer for the juice diet?

i control the way i eat, my stomach shrinks.
I run 5-8 miles 3 x a week, I cut out all sugar and I take tonalin CLA. I have kept 15 pounds off for over 2 years.

People always ask me, did I ever learn anything when I was a stripper? Yeah, I did. One man plus two beers equals 20 dollars.

it helps because you are getting all your nutrients from juice, so it's best to keep as many as possible. Lots is lost with pasteurizing.Originally Posted by sexynsweetSF

Don't go on a juice fast and then eat a box of cheez-its and ice cream the next day. Keep it as unprocessed and organic as possible (like Lena said.)

Atkins Diet. I've tried just about every diet out there, and Atkins is the only one that helped me lose weight quickly AND keep it off. It does require a lot of willpower in the beginning though. I know there are a lot of Atkins haters out there who think it's all about eating tons of meat and cheese and depriving yourself of fruits and vegetables, but if you READ THE BOOK, you know that is absolutely false. It is healthy for you, and my body fat and cholesterol have dropped considerably since doing Atkins.

Wow, I give you props Emily, juice fasting requires TONS of willpower. I tried it once and only lasted one day. I was so hungry, tired, and irritable and I just couldn't do it. It does help you drop weight quickly though.Originally Posted by Emily
Sensible diet and plenty of exercise. It's the tried and true way, but it's not always easy and takes effort (which is why 60% of Americans are overweight/obese).Originally Posted by ketalar

I'm sorry i have to add-- im not just another "atkins hater" but atkins is NOT NOT NOT healthy for you... its MUCH better now since they changed it because of all the backlash and added more whole grains, but if I had to pick a low carb diet it'd be south beach, but its not as great either-- sure low carb is a good way to lose weight quick, but please dont let anyone ever tell you that less than 100g of carbs a day is any GOOD for you..

Emily, I was planning on drinking a gallon of water per day and eating just green veggies or grapes for three days before a 3 day juice diet (so the transition from more fatty foods to juice is not as hard) Is this a good idea? I have been eating alot more sandwiches and junk lately.
Also, if i just go to the store and buy any juice that says 100 percent juice,,,will it still have the same weight loss effect? My mother has a juicer but i wont be able to see her till next week so i do not want to buy a new one...but i DO want to see what i can do with the juice this week.
Thanks in advance
I'm really not an expert on juice fasting. I jsut know what I've read, so take my advice with a grain of salt. The only thing I know for sure is that it does work and you don't "just gain it back" as long as you eat sensibly afterwards (I usually do a low-cal balanced diet and lose more weight)
But everything I've read says that the more natural and fresh the juice, the better. I don't have a juicer either (don't know why but I am sure I will one day), so I usually go for the juices in the refridgerated section. I get a high fiber berry juice (they fill me up) and a green vegetable juice.
And lots of water!
Store bought juices are pasturized and in the process, the vitamin/mineral content of the juices is killed/destroyed. You are drinking in added calcium/vitamins/minerals, etc. It's NOT as healthy. Also, most store bought juices have added sweetners in it (sucrose, fructose, etc). You are better off going and buying a strainer (small one) and using a wooden spoon to mash the juice out of the fruit. You can use a "serving" size orange juicer (they're little plastic ones with the raised center) and then throw all of the juices in a blender and blend.Originally Posted by Silky
But, I would suggest that you stay away from store bought juices.

Maybe it doesn't work for you, but many people ARE healthy on the diet and have been for years. So yeah, you are just another "atkins hater" because you aren't criticizing it on legitimate grounds.![]()
This does work, but don't do it as a quick fix. It's more changing your eating for life. Then again, that can be said of all diets.
Sorry, you are wrong. There is a such thing as an essential carbohydrate. Carbs are what give your body energy. There are good carbs and bad carbs. The trick is knowing which ones are good (naturally occuring, or carbs found in veggies/fruits) are good...carbs found in processed foods are bad.Originally Posted by Beauty's Release
But, I've never met a healthy person who maintained a low/no carb diet. Look at Atkins when he died...he did not look healthy.
Moderation...to everything is the key...not cutting out carbs.

But I mentioned glucogensis for a reason...there is an alternate method to getting your required glucose for energy. You don't have to consume/eat it, therefore it is not essential. I have heard of essential amino and fatty acids however.Originally Posted by VenusGoddess
Getting your carbs from fruits and veggies IS AtkinsNo arguement there. You're eating fruits and veggies (4 cups) from the very beginning and then add more in later stages.
You've never met someone healthy on low carb? You should head over to www.lowcarb.ca. It's a huge forum full of people who have improved their health on various low carb diets, including Atkins. Some of them for decades, and yes their frequent medical testing backs this up.

Venus...don't you miss chewing though? I seriously can't get through even one day of a juice fast!
Sometimes, but I like to combine a whole lot of juices. I also add apple pectin to my juice...for fiber. So, maybe that helps.
