    Default Flu Comfort Foods

I'm just wondering if there's anything in particular you girls eat when you get sick? I have the flu right now, and it's making me all sleepy and stuffed up but my hunger is still like normal. I tend to eat congee when I'm sick - rice soup that has been boiled for hours and hours so the rice is all broken down...you can get it in chinese restaurants and anything can be added to it but when i make it i tend to make it with lots of ginger, garlic, and onions, with some chicken stock.
I also have this thing for oranges when I'm sick.

What do you eat when you're sick? Does it make you feel any better?

For any kind of cold or flu I want to eat Popeye's chicken. I think it goes back to my mom always telling me to eat it so it'll open up my sinuses when I was sick. I also want to drink sugary sodas like Crush or something. When I have the stomach flu I want to drink coke (not Diet) or sprite.

ahh! my mum used to have this belief that coke would stop us from being nauseous, and if we DID end up puking, well at least it came up easily and tasted kinda nice. haha. so when we were sick, even though we were restricted to eating congee like stuff (when i was a kid and sick, my parents used to go on super food patrol, i remember when i was 6 in primary school and i had a cold, and my friend and i put our 10 cents' together so we could get half an icy pole each...my sister caught me eating it and told on me - there was hell to pay for it when i got home!) but we were allowed to drink coke!

I've always liked salty hash browns when I'm sick. And tomato soup.

Coke does keep you from being nauseous! It's the cola syrup that does it and you can even just buy the straight syrup. My doctor told me about this a few months ago when I had a gross stomach virus.

I eat toast, chicken soup, pudding, and drink lots of tea when I have a cold or flu. Also I second the garlic.

mostly flat gingerale or 7up and plain toast or crackers are great for nausea. Popsicles are great for a sore throat. You cant forget the classic, chicken noodle soup! I stay away from anything that has dairy when Im sick, it will curdle your vomit and mucus.

Flat gingerale is the best for you, the ginger is to sooth your stomache. Make sure its flat though or the bubbley carbination can upset your tummy.

Whenever I'm sick my husband makes me a shirley temple...ginger ale with granadine and a cherry. Even thought the sweetness should make me nauseous(I dont have much of a sweet tooth), somehow it always soothes me.

Tomato soup works too. And toast. Whenever I've had surgery...all I want for a day or two after is toast. I actually crave it. Strange.
People always ask me, did I ever learn anything when I was a stripper? Yeah, I did. One man plus two beers equals 20 dollars.

I always crave really odd food, and the only thing I can stomach is what I crave. Hell, I've been known to eat Mexican food with the stomach flu, and be fine, but puke up toast. I really like hot jello water though, my mom used to make it for me when I was little. Just heat up water with jello powder, taste it til it's strong enough for you (tastes kinda like koolaid), and drink SUPER hot. Makes a sore throat better too.
