    Default Tax prep classes! Income!

HRBLOCK has classes where they teach you how to prepare taxes for yourself and others. It costs $45, and you go for 8-10 weeks. Ive never been good with numbers and stuff, but since I took a budget and finance class the other day for myself ,i kinda got interested. This is a good way to make some money, and also learn about taxes, and doing them yourself for much much less. Im pretty excited. Anybody else do this?

taxes make my skin crawl but go for it if you are interested. There will always be a need for tax prepapers. And I don't think you even have to get that good for Block to hire you to work because they fuck up people's taxes all the time. I'm not saying you would do that, but just that I think they'll pretty much give you a job after you take the courses. I have a cousin who took a lot of advanced courses with them just for herself and she knows a heck of a lot about doing taxes.

H&R Block is a joke! They do a 3.5 hr training session on fill-in-the-blank taxes! They are not trained..they fill in the blanks. Our business has expenses that are not allowed by general public!! Be Aware.

Unless you want to be removed of all of you LEGAL expenses DO NOT go to H&R.

In Canada, there is a program that is as closely created for our business as possible when it comes to tax expense...Quicktax Small Business Edition.

I am not sure if this product is available in the US, since it is Canadian made. Maybe there is something similar...try and google Intuit Canada. They manufacture business products, maybe there is something for the US!!

My tax preparer (not HR BLOCK), has been doing our families taxes for years. He knows exactly what I do and have done for a living. He told me to get Quickbooks. Maybe this is what you mean as something similar at Quicktax???

MYOB .. whilst complicated at first and you will require some training by your accountant on how to use it for your type of business (cash based).. after you know what you are doing and are set up is really really easy to use!! I highly recommend it.

Yes, Quickbooks is the accounting program that can be used to prepare taxes on Quicktax. Same company manufactures it! I use Quickbook to do my year long acounting work and then just let it import into Quicktax.

I knew you would have something similar, I guess they have the same product.... just varied for each country.

I just want to learn how to do others taxes. My ex husbands step mom does it, makes pretty good cash on the side. She went through HR Block, but doesnt work there. Just took the classes to do the taxes for others.

I took the Jackson Hewitt course, aced it and got a job in the end. They (both Jackson Hewitt and Block) do that as a means of recruiting new employees. I think it's a decent BASIC course but in no way qualifies you to be responsible for other people's tax returns. Did you know that if you prepare someone else's return and they get audited, that YOU can be held liable for mistakes?

Wow....thanx for telling me that! Well if anything, Ill learn more than what I know now! I never intended on working there, but if they consider that "training" or whatever, i might as well, if they offer me the job.
I wonder if they do credit checks before I could work there. My credit is ugly!

    Reviving an older thread...
Anyway, I came across a HR ad for tax school. I wouldn't want to deal w/them, I've heard REALLY bad things about them, from someone who basically lost their biz having had their taxes done w/them.
I did, however, look up Jackson Hewitt, & they have 3 type of formats for tax school, classroom, online classroom, & at home online, of which I'd be interested in. The reason being for my own interest, but also to get another side trade.

I started to take it, after abotu the 6th class. I was like I don't need to know this stuff, I thought I would take it so I can file my own taxes for my business but then after I found out I won't be able to do that after 3 years of working with HR block and taking a course every year.

It's a good course a lot of info to know about, but it might not be for everyone as it wasn't for me.

I worked for Jackson Hewitt while I was in school back in like 2001 and I got paid a whopping $5.25 an hour....lol. We had like 1 day of training if that and that's it.

Ok. I wouldn't be working for them. I'd be doing it independently, after a while.

H&R Block is the worst! Id never go to them! They screw up everyones taxes!

Thats not what I look for in a teacher.

Plus I dont fuck with the IRS with individuals who dont take liability for screwing up my taxes.

If you do......get a fat bond to insure you. (Depending on your state)

I have seen these ads and the important little detail that stood out to me is that these are NOT advertisments saying that THEY need tav preparers, they DO NOT even suggest that you will take this course and then work for them, they just say that "you can make good money doing taxes" who for they don't say.

It leads me to beleive that maybe this is some sort of scam. You pay them however much they run you through this course and then that is it, not only are you are not offered a job with H&R Block but not offered one ANYWHERE, you are on your own.

THe cynic in me says that they have just struck upon another way to make money during the summer and fall IE not the "tax season"

A lady I worked w/awhile back, was taking classes for tax prep. I think she had a base of people to work for (as an independant) since she spoke Spanish, but not sure. I think her husband had the same, he spoke another language.
