    Default Where Were You? 9/11

Well, unless I'm a monkey-moron (which couldn't possibly be true) then no one asked. So I will!

I was watching the news when the first tower was hit. Being the naive putz I am, I thought it must have been accidental. I then left for the dentist's office....during which time I heard that the second tower was hit. I then realized it was not an accident. While that horror was happening...I was having my friggin' teeth cleaned. We finally stopped and with goop in my mouth and a blue bib around my neck, we all stood around the television realizing that our lives were awfully good.....and feeling angry as hell. That's where I was....the only time in my life of 36 years that I can pinpoint what I was doing during a moment in history.

    Anyone else?

I was just waking up. I walked thru the living room on my way to the kitchen and saw it on the news. I thought it was a terrible accident and immediately gave the telly my full attention. When the other planes started hitting, I knew what was going on. I was numb for days. Tonight I tried to watch the entire broadcast in NY where they named every person who died. So sad!

I was getting ready for school when the first tower was hit.. I had overslept that day.. when I got to school the second tower had just collapsed and our school went into 'lock down' just as I entered the door. I remember sitting in my history class and watching the news.. the whole school was in shock. We were sent home just after noon, a bunch of kids in my school had family that was there when it happend a few of us had lost relatives... its weird how I remember it so well.

I got called into work later in the afternoon, I was working as a booking agent for Avis car rentals.. I dont want to begin how rude the CNN reporters were with me demanding that they needed a car at ground zero. It seriously made me sick.

There is another thread, but I dunno if it's actually dedicated to this particular angle or not. Repeating from that thread:

I was a relay operator for the Deaf; I spoke and typed back and forth so that a Deaf caller on a TTY could talk to a hearing person with just a phone. We were really busy all morning with people calling all over the country freaking out. I was freaking out too. This asshole operator near me kept saying his mother was sending him text messages saying that they also hit the Sears Tower in Chicago, the CNN tower in Atlanta, the Pentagon, and the Golden Gate Bridge. When we heard the Pentagon really had been hit, we believed the other ones and thought it was freaking Armageddon. By noon they sent us all home and I went to my mother's house and watched the news all day. I was terrified.

My middle brother was at school, but my youngest brother (who was about 6 or 7) and my oldest brother (about 12) were being homeschooled at the time so they were there with us. The oldest watched all the coverage with us and tried to make sense of it. The little one sat out in the car watching "Chicken Run" on the car's DVD. Evidently it did make an impression on him though, because he was drawing planes crashing into buildings for weeks after that. And he told our grandmother, "When I grow up, I'm gonna be a pilot. And I'm gonna land the plane on the ground and not crash it into the building, because when you crash it, it hurts people." Broke our hearts.

I was getting ready for work when it was on the news...talk about feeling helpless!! At first I wasn't sure it was real until my work called and said not to come in as the whole few blocks around the Sears Tower were being evacuated...

Sad, sad day...one I'd rather not relive.

I was walking to work. Folks came streaming away from ground zero, trying to get the hell out of the city. Everyone was scrambling, no one knew who was where... family... friends... co workers. It still scares me to think of what it was like.

I was getting ready to run some errands with my mom when I saw what was happening on the news, so I called my mom in the living room with me and we just watched what happened. I hope never to see anything so scary in my life again.

It was Sept 12 for me personally (I'm in Australia... 10 hours, at least, ahead). The whole day I wasn't near a television nor turned it on.... all I knew is that something really really bad had happened in the US... what... I had no idea. I eventually saw the footage and news when I went into Santa Fe Gold here in Surfers Paradise to do my first ever night stripping. Oh yeh... first EVER night! I started the night of the attacks (as such for us in Australia).

That strip club usually just showed music videos or whatever on the television screens above the bar so no one would pay attention to them really..... except this time. We also paid attention as it was absolutely DEAD (naturally)....

Well...I'll just give the short version.

I was at school. Someone came in and turned on the tv, and we all watched as everything was happening. Sad...

On a personal note...the terrorists were in my club 2 weeks before they flew into the towers(they trained to fly a few towns over). The FBI traced their credit cards to the club and came in to question people. So much for their HIGH moral values and Americans LOW morals...they were in a fucking STRIP CLUB 2 weeks before.
People always ask me, did I ever learn anything when I was a stripper? Yeah, I did. One man plus two beers equals 20 dollars.

It was September 12th for me too. I was teaching English on a remote island in Japan. A friend called from LA and told me to turn on the TV. I had just hooked up to CNN the day before and stayed on the phone all night crying with another American on the mainland who was watching the whole thing in Japanese. I had only been there a few weeks and was still doing introductory classes about my country. It was horrible doing those simple lessons but internally feeling like my own country was on fire. Everywhere I went I heard "Taihen desu ne..." (What a tragedy...) I remember the whole thing with a strange silence since I had no one to talk to about it except for emails from home.

8th grade? That's so cute! And I'm so old.

My boyfriend had just dropped me off at work - a store downtown. I walked in and the show that was on tv got interrupted with the news so we saw it all happen (when they collapsed and everything) I called my boyfriend on the phone and told him to turn the radio on, he said "what station?" and I said - it doesn't matter - any station. He still hasn't seen any footage of it, says he doesn't want to.

We just watched TV all day. It was my best friends birthday though, so we took her out to dinner and tried to keep our minds off it for a bit.

i was a senior in highschool and once a week we had "town meeting" on tuesdays. it was like homeroom, but in the gym so we were all there... since we'd had a bomb threat the end of junior year at the boys school, when the principal came on and said "theres been a terrorist attack" and she was like losing her mind... everyone looked at each other and said "why would terrorists attack st. joes?? then she said the rest, and it clicked.. every class but one that day, we watched tv and did nothing else... last class of the day was our government class... she wouldnt let us watch it. she said there was too high emotions and too much conflicting info to deal with today, and we were all supposed to watch the news tonight and our discussion would be tomorrow...

i'll never forget that day, like so many others wont...

Oh ya, it was strange, cause I had just gone to NYC a week earlier for the first time, so I've got all of these pictures of me with the towers behind me.

I was just waking up, and my boss called me and said she had been trying to get through to me all morning but "with all that is happening"she had trouble getting through because the cell phones werent working properly. I had no idea what she was talking about, and didnt really ask, and got ready and left the house. Stopped at a gas station, and heard all these people talkingabout what as going on, and finally I had to ask, excuse me, but what is everyone talking about? The clerk looked at me really strange, and said, you dont know?? look at the tv. Then I saw.....

i had slept through the event (my time) and went to work early sept 12 (Australia). i brought in the newspaper and it had huge black letters: "US AT WAR" with that famous picture of the 2nd plane about to hit.

it blew my mind. someone brought their TV in so we could watch everything unfold. very little got done that day. i phoned and emailed everyone important to me to find out where they were and that they were ok.

you must have worked with my friend....she said the same thing, and the guys were joking about how they were going to do it, and no one took them seriously.

i was just waking up (nz time 6am) seen it on the news, went to school, but didnt have to do much school work. the next day i got in trouble for saying a few political things that i dont want to mention here...i was just regurgitating what i had heard previously about americans holding back medications etc. really i was talking a load of shit and should have gotten in far more trouble.

I was sitting in court with my ex fiance for his traffic ticket. The recessed the court because of it then people started saying a plane hit the towers. We all thought it was a joke. Sadly, it wasn't.

I watched it on the news all day and cried. I had just signed up for the Army and was scheduled to leave for Basic on the 31st of September. I was so scared I was going to have to go to war. I did, but it wasn't so bad... Got me into dancing, lol.

I was in school, taking a chemistry test and the tv was on mute. I just sat their reading captions, then started bawing. I couldn't talk too even explain why I was upset. I just pointed at the tv. It was aweful. Then the 2nd tower go hit. I seriously thought I would die. The president was in my town, and people were so scared. I thought we would be the next target. He was at my cousin's school, and I thought she would die. I have had such gratitude for every day. Any time something bad happens and I feel depressed, I know that G-d has protected me before and will again. I lost a uncle and a close family friend in the wtc as well, so it has been a sad day. I will never forget that moment, or those we lost.

there is a saying in orthodox jewish communities, mostly chessidic. "Next year in Israel"
It means that by next year, all the nations will be in peace with eachother. It may seem out there, but all we can hope and pray for is peace. May the 6th anniversary/memorial of the terrorist attcks on 9/11/01 be usherd in with peace and love, instead of hate and distruction.

I'm crying again. I've been all day. I just hope everyone is safe and that hatred, racism, and biggotry will find their end.

I was in an 8 a.m. government class. A kid came in, not from our class, and in the middle of the lecture walked up to the podium and said, "The World Trade Center buildings collapsed, it's all over the news." We were murmuring and confused, but the prof simply raised his eyebrows, said, "Quiet down, people," and continued class. In my next class we were in a computer lab and were all staring at the CNN website in disbelief; that professor, who was much more engaged with the world, promptly dismissed class.

I was humping my girlfriend on the living room floor for most of the morning. Then she went to work and I took a shower and did some programming. Then she emailed and said "Can you believe this" and I was like "What?" Then she told me to turn on the TV. It was stunning.

I was fixing my 1 year old daughter a baggie of cheerios when I heard her cartoon "Dragon Tales" get interupted. I remember thinking something must really be wrong for them to interupt Public Broadcasting. I held my daughter, called my husband and just sat in shock for the rest of the day.

I was in Australia too (Sep 12). I was out on my mothers farm, which is so quiet and in the middle of nowhere. It was on top a hill and you could see for miles. I awoke to my Mum calling to me to come and see what had happened

I was at work. 5 years ago I was training Thouroghbred foals, I was in a stall listening to the radio.... I was pissed that they interrupted the music.... Then as I scrolled through the stations and heard all news, I stopped and listened... I couldn't believe it. I stood there in the barn looking out at the beautiful blue cloudless sky and realized that I had NO idea about the state of the world. For the rest of the day I felt surreal. I was so shocked. There were no planes overhead and our maintence guys and I worked in silence listening to the radio.
