How do you get the dog urine smell up out of the carpet?
I've tried enzymes but that's not working. If you post a brand name item can you tell me what to expect to pay for it? Thanks!

Is it just a spot, or is it the whole carpet that stinks/needs cleaning?

vinegar and water solution. the vinegar "kills" the ammonia smell. also, try the enzymes from a company called bi-o-kleen...it works wonders!

A bit of baking soda helps.
It's just one spot in the corner on otherwise new carpet.
Do you have a carpet shampooer? That's the only thing that works for me.

I can picture the bottle, but not the name of the product.
However, we got a bissel spot bot (edit - to use instead), it's awesome.

Go out and buy a carpet cleaner. They have cheap ones at Home Depot (around $90-$100). The cheaper ones only do an ok job of cleaning up spots if the carpet is a light color, but they definitly suck up the smell.
I've got an 8 month old puppy, and he has ruined our carpet. We will be replacing it when he's fully potty trained, but we want to wait till that phase is done. Till then...we shampoo our carpet around 2 times a month...and it helps minimize the stains, and controls the smell.

Those enzyme products work well for spots and temporary but there's nothing like a steam cleaner....

Google "Urine Gone". It is a cleaner you spray on your carpet and then run a UV light over it to detect the urine spots.
Also, look in your mailbox for those neighborhood distribution coupons. Professional carpet cleaning companies almost always have a promo coupon in those.

^^ditto on the urine gone, it's the only thing I could use to get rid of the cat pee smell in my house. Works wonders!
I believe you Dottie and you have my support

Im using vinegar/water in a spray bottle to kill fleas in my carpet, and its also helps kill the urine smell. Awesome. Also, you can rent a Rug Doctor for $17,plus the cost of shampoo....I plan on doing it tonight before I go to work, since I just got rid of my puppy last night, and he got the whole carpet. Starting with a steam cleaned floor, then using something like vinegar spray,if u still need it,....should do the trick! Let us know what works!

Probaby dont need any special products aside from the regualr shampoo, but heres something they got for more money.
*I never tried it and probaby wont be getting that tonight.*
I am dealing with the same issue. Someone recently told me it's not just the carpet that is the problem but the pad underneat. My dog pisses on my rug all the time and I didnt' realize how bad it stinks until I sat down to put on my shoes one day. Amazing what a 7 pound dog can do with a full bladder.
I clean carpets proffesionally, for the last four years i have had to deal with this problem alot. especially for yorkie terriers for some reason?? anywho, the best thing you can do is respond quickly (i personally own a little green machine). the longer you let the urine stay in the carpet the more it will become a stain. if you do not have a green machine or bissell then you can easily mix water with amonia and spray that on the infected area and dampen dry with clean towels extracting out all of the urine you can, because you are only cleaning the tuft of the carpet fiber not the backing or pad. the amonia over time will evaporate in the air taking the urine odor with it. You should not use vinegar, that is good for some wine spots mostly. The best thing you can do is keep the spot wet do not let it dry or the spot will set and then it is impossible to remove. once it is wet then cover it with saran wrap and call a carpet proffesional. tell them you need a emergency spot cleaning job asap. Call a proffesional that uses a van mount system because these machines are the best for this type of job. the water is very hot and the vacuum is very powerful. I would ask if the company uses products like hydrocyde or bio charge(powerful enzyme cleaner) or spice air (which masks the odor) You could try to steam clean(using a steamer) it but that is very risky. for one you could set the stain and two you could damage your carpet fibers by getting them way to hot. The last resort is to call a carpet installer and for that person to use remanant to plug those problem areas. good luck!!
Febreze works for me with my THREE cats. I bought a whole bunch about a year ago, and I'd estimate that it's about $5 each.
Once every week or two, I do a complete vacuuming and febreezing of the litter box area. When they have accidents, I use Resolve carpet cleaner, followed by febreeze once the carpet is clean and dry.

I just gave up on carpet. Tile and pergo-like flooring only, now.
Never found anything for carpet that could keep up with the pack.

There's a cleaning product called Awesome that cleans & deodorizes EVERYTHING. (Full name- "LA's Totally Awesome!") I've heard it shows up at a lot of 99 Cent stores, but don't be fooled by that- it works better than bleach with no stench. Give it a shot.

I have the littel green clean machine by bissel- not expensive and works wonders for touch-ups and keeping the carpet clean spot-free.
I start with Nature's Miracle. The point is to let the enzyme work for about 3-10 days. Once I've had the enzyme there for a week or so and the smell's dissipated, I get the little green clean machine and really clean the carpet. Once that's dry, I use a product called atmosklear, and voila.
look up atmosklear on google. Nature;s miracle can be found in petsmart, pet people or petco.
I have 6-9 cats (If I have fosters around) and 3 dogs.
I just have to say that cleaning your carpet too often will cause the padding to mold/mildew. Cleaning the carpet every month or more will cause it to mold/mildew even faster.

Sometimes I've found the only way to get rid of the smell is to get rid of the padding as well.
