    Default The Pill and antibiotics

    Hi all,
About 2 weeks ago I came down with strep throat and the Dr. put me on antibiotics. I'm on the Pill and asked the doctor if the antibiotics (amoxicillin)would affect the birth controll pill I'm on (ortho tri cyclen lo). He said no, but the pharmacist said that amoxicillin may affect the Pill slightly.

Anyhoo...today is the last day of taking antibiotics. My boyfriend came over. We had sex, and we decided not to use condoms. He didn't cum inside of me ( he pulled out way ahead of time and was only inside of me for 2 min or so). I know that this does not always prevent a pregnancy. I know if we wanted to play it super-safe we should have used condoms. I know I know I know. We just don't like having anything between us. I DEFINITELY want to marry this man and have his babies someday, but having a baby right now would not be good timing. My question is...

have any of you pill users ever gotten pregnant while taking amoxicillin?

I don't think I'm in trouble, and my gut feeling says that I'm in the clear, but there is always that small chance...

Eeeeeeeeeeeeee guys please be kind, I know I should have played it totally safe and used a condom, and if I do become pregnant I'd take full responsibility for my actions. I think I have little reason to worry, but still...

It depends where you are in your cycle. If you started the antibiotics near the beginning of your pill pack, then you should get the morning after pill. Otherwise cross your fingers, pray, and remember this next time.

I wonder why your doctor told you the antibiotics wouldn't affect the pill. I have always heard that antibiotics affect the pill, and you must always use a back up method when on antibiotics. A girl I know was taking antibiotics for a cold and the doc didnt tell her it could affect her pill. She didnt know she was pregnant until she was 12 weeks because she continued to have light bleeding every month which she assumed was a period.

I started antibiotics about halfway through the cycle.
