I've noticed that my cat has been sneezing frequently since yesterday and has been drinking more water than I usually see him drink. His appietite hasn't changed. Any other cat owners ever experience this with their cat(s)?

Not only can cats catch colds, they can give it to you and vice versa... Take him to the vet.

My son and I just got over colds! Jeeze, I guess we gave it to him. Calling the vet now.

Usually if your cat has a cold their eyes will get kinda watery, too. It's just some simple antibiotics most of the time. No huge deal, but yeah I'd call the vet.

His eyes seem fine, but I'll call the vet just to be sure.

^You're in NJ, you should check out the Pet Wellness program at Banfield Vet. There's one in almost every Petsmart. You pay a down payment, and then like 15 bucks a month (or more depending one the plan you get) and all your cat's stuff is covered, including office visits, and you get a discount on any medications. It's saved me a TON of money in the last couple of years. The service is good too, check it out. http://www.petsmart.com/banfield/index.shtml

My cat caught a virus from the Humane Society. Something like feline herpes, but it gives them a viral infection like a cold every year. Nothing will rid of it; he might have been a silent carrier or caught it from another. Supposedly it's easy for cats to spread it to each other. Your cat might have it.
It will go away on it's own, but my vet likes to give my cat nose drops and oral antibiotics to speed the process.
I wonder if the same if for bearded dragons..if I can pass colds/flus onto them
Cats definitely do catch colds from people. Once, I was so sick, that one of my cats got it as bad as I was. It was so gross ....he was sneezing out tiny green boogers. All over. Literally. I was walking around my house, cleaning and sanitzing all day long, b/c I didn't know exactly where he had sneezed throughout the day. Very gross. At least I can use tissues to cover my nose.....his was just all over!

Wow! I didn't know that. I was sick last week, and Katya has been sneezing all of this week!! Poor pussy....

Antibiotics for a cold? A cold is a virus. An antibiotic isn't going to do anything but cause problems later. If it's a cold, he's just going to have to eat and rest (ha ha, like a cat does anything else) and let it run its course. Call the vet, I guess, but it seems like a waste as long as he just has a normal cold. There is no cure for the common cold in humans, and it's unlikely it has a cure in cats.
This is all true. I have been through this with my cat a few times. She would sneeze for a couple days and Id pay money to the vet for them to tell me she is going to be ok. They get colds just like we do and just like us it usually goes away in 5-8 days. Ive gotten to the point with her that if shes sneezing and coughing I just keep my eye on her and look for the typical signs of her being really sick, third eyelid coming out, not eating or drinking and not playing anymore. Those are signs you should really worry about.Cats can also have allergies like we do. Im no expert but if she is drinking a lot of water that is a good thing. I would say that you know you cat the best and if you are really worried you should call the vet.Originally Posted by Yekhefah

OKay, not antibiotics...you're correct. The last couple of times my older boy got a cold though, his eyes got all gummy and nasty on top of it, so that's what the stuff was for. Either way, the vet is always a good idea if it goes on for more than a couple of days or if you notice a change in appetite/behavior/etc....it could be something else. My vet rules. If i take either of my boys in with a worry and there's nothing wrong, he doesn't charge me.
