I'm thinking about contacting my local AVON representative and start selling products. Does anyone have any advice, experience, or tips with this kind of work?

As a long time Avon customer...I have one.
If you have a customer that has NEVER skipped payment on an order, don't make them start pre-paying because someone else doesn't pay for their order.
That's what my rep. has started doing, and it really pisses me off.
If you do, watch out for this cat....(although, yes, i admit this is an old story)

i used to do avon when i was at school..i enjoyed tho i mainly sold to my family and friends as a lot of ppl in my street werent very reliable.

If you are looking to sell to other dancers... since we all work in the adult industry... go with an adult industry party plan type of thing which sells toys, clothes and so forth. I've been told it is also a great way to get yourself "out there" amongst other women without being looked down upon as anyone who attends any of your parties will at least be okay in some way with sexuality and sex. Naturally, this will only work if you have the time to organise and host parties..........and like doing parties.
Otherwise, there is AVON... The only bad I have heard about AVON isn't the reps themselves so much as that products they advertise as available are not and so forth.

My best friend sells Avon & I was buying only from her until I moved. Avon customers are very loyal (we found the local Avon lady the first week we got to our new place LOL) the products are high-quality, & your best customers are ones who can't drop everything to go makeup shopping, like stay-at-home moms & women with long workweeks.
It does take dedication to make a lot from the venture, as is with any sales job.
Honestly consider mary kay i use mary kay and i love it its a little better quility then avon.

... Mary Kay sells almost exclusively cosmetics, while Avon offers a wide variety of products, including clothing, jewelry, household accessories, and more.
Here in Australia, AVON and Nutrimetics are the two well known "brands" in that department. Mary Kay isn't so "known" as such.

Well, thanks to this thread and other reasons I signed up as an AVON rep today. I'm doing the "friends and family" thing not going to take on a territory or anything. We'll see if I make any money with it. I figured it has better and more appeal than Amway (argh!!! I got involved one time and never ever again!!) ... Herbalife (run away!!!) and even my Goji business... I just want something I can sell to anyone within and outside the adult entertainment business... that is also really really flexible plus I don't have to keep ordering to stay "on board" .. so we'll see how this goes...
I figured with all the travelling I do ... I can make something ??

I have sold AVON for a year and a half now, and i love it, but i do have a word of advice, but please dont take this the wrong way... you will not make thousands of dollars SELLING the products.. the money avon claims you can make is all in the leadership... i did leadership for a while, but i only had 4 girls, and after 6 months they took them all away from me cuz i didnt have 5 girls... I'd also like to add, i dont make anyone prepay, in fact, i dont LET anyone prepay, because then if a product doesnt ocme in, i have to give refunds and its a pain in the ass... And about the products not being available, it has gotten a LOT better in the past year and a half-- last year they switched to a new manufacturing plant and it made it much better...
and another thing, I have never SOLD mary kay, but i've used it, and it is not better quality for everyone... some things may be, but its also a hell of a lot more expensive, and from what i've heard from reps, they pressure them into building up a CRAPLOAD of inventory... ive heard of girls having hundreds of dollars in mary kay inventory that they cant get rid of, cuz people dont want to buy it...
again these things are all my opinions... Good luck selling to those of you who sign up!!

Honey, my rep was waiting until our orders came in and then sending us our invoice. Then we had to pay (it gets sent back and forth between different work locations) her and she'd send our order. She must have figured out it wasn't going to work, though, because she sent our order (as usual) Monday, and we paid the same day.Originally Posted by HoneyHITZ

I was informed by the Rep yesterday when I had the meeting to sign up that I order everything on credit with AVON - as such. Since she is full time (team leader etc) she makes good money ... and she wouldn't be able to continue in the business if she had to fork out 1000s of dollars in orders before she received the orders. AVON invoices you, you pay AVON whatever you owe and keep the profit (just like I pay my agents for my dancing their commissions and keep the profits - as such).
I am also not getting into AVON for making a s**tload of money. After alot of trial and error with alot of other "network marketing" companies (Amway, Herbalife, Freelife International) I have realised that AVON is my best bet. It allows me to concentrate on selling one line of products if I so desire as well as having awhole heap of stuff to sell. There is something in there for everyone and I don't know too many people with a negative view of AVON.
Other than bitching about the orders (ordering products and not having them be delivered or wrong products being delivered etc etc) or about individual reps themselves ... there really isn't too much wrong with it.
I like how I don't have to place an order every month (or "campaign").
Regardless, even if I make a little bit of $$ it will be worth it. Just another income source.
One last thing, I like how there isn't a huge emphasis on recruiting (tho' they do reward you, naturally). The average jane and john will only be able to successfully recruit 2 people (maybe 3 if they're really good) so I needed something that was more consumer-orientated than recruiting-orientated.

Have fun GCG!
I used to sell AVON, I did it for about 3 years, and it was alot of fun. Although I didn't make thousands of dollars, I made some nice 'pocket money'...for really minimal effort too. I sold only to family and friends, wasn't too interested in seeking a huge customer base. Best bet for gaining new customers is word of mouth through your family/friends.
It's great also how you submit your orders online on the website, instead of having to phone in or send in the order form.
The products are great in my opinion...and as a rep you get lots of freebies, discounts and gifts.

I have an aunt who's been the Avon lady in her town for decades. She won a couple trips to Hawaii for being a national top seller. She DOES make alot with it, because she goes all over the area selling and has a serious client base built up. She has customers who've been with her for decades, and their daughters are now her customers. In some cases she's even got some granddaughters as customers now![]()
So you CAN make thousands at it, but you'd have to treat it like a full time job and be very good at networking/client building. My aunt does not do the leadership, although she probably should, she's so good at the business!
