    Default white poison...

    sugar!

I used to read very extreme health/exercise magazines (bodybuilding) and they would nickname sugar the white poison. Anyhoo, of course I likr sugar and sweets and chocolate, but here is my experience. Has anyone else experienced this?

I stopped eating all refined sugars (candy, white bread, any white starches) but still allow myself fatty rich foods like deep fried snacks, cheese, red meat, beer, dry wine and spirits and now I seem to maintain a lower weight than before. I never crave desserts or treats or baked goods anymore. Ever. The only time I ever eat those is to be polite if someone offers. If I'm hungry, I automatically reach for something more savoury - sometimes salty and fatty - but generally healthy. I've always been very slim, but now it is a lot easier and I am about 5-10 lbs lighter than I was.

Just curious if anyone else is the same way?
*btw, I do still eat high-sugar fruits like mangos and pineapples

whatever works....i did a no-sugar diet for awhile, but over the past year or so i've reintroduced a small amount into my diet (needed the rush combined with caffeine for my last year of grad school). i haven't gained any weight....but then again, my weight has been within a 7 or so pound range for the past 9 years.

if you really need something sweet, fruits and veggies are your best bet, as you already know.

you seem to be doing a modified low carb diet....or some version of atkins or southbeach. congrats on the weight loss

I'm kind of the same way, except I like bread and pasta. I try to stick to whole-wheat and whole-grain though. But I don't really crave sugar either. I love fresh fruit, and that's plenty sweet enough for my sweet tooth.

It's not so strange you lost weight doing this. The low sugar, higher fat approach is the basis of many low carb diets. So yes, there's a science behind it and it's normal.

But whatever diet you choose...white sugar and refined white flours are always bad news. And most people can drop excess pounds just by cutting those things out.

Naw- I was off refined sugar for almost 2 years, and I still craved it often. I was eating lots of fruit, mind you, so it wasn't totally out of my system.
