    Default Making outfits

How many of you make your own outfits? Do you use patterns and what fabrics do you use? I've sewn before never anything for dancing though. So I'm curious.

Edit: Oh and do you think I could dance in this top?

I wish I was creative enough to do that.....I guess I should have paid attention to my mom when she wanted to teach me how to sew. The only thing I'm considering doing is adding rhinestones to what I already have.

I don't know if it would be quite long enough for the club I'm going to though, you have to have a cover up on the bottom unless you're on the stage but I would probably just have a short lace wrap or something if it's not long enough.

I don't sew, but i've been designing clothes since I was about 13. Really nice stuff too...or so I'm told I have three people in my contacts book who sew costumes, and I draw up things and send them the designs, instructions and swatches when i want something specific that I thought up. Costume seamstresses are actually not that hard to find, so if you have something in mind that you want but can't sew it yourself, that might be the way to go.

I make all my own bikinis and g-strings. Also wraps, but they're in all honesty crap reall which requires no sewing or skill, lol. Im not great at sewing, but bikinis are so easy. I would love to be able to make the stuff genevere makes, its amazing!

Agreed with Guenevere on all counts, except that IMO, to make a thong WELL is not an easy thing. I definitely would not wear that top but you can get dresses and rompers in similar styles that would work better. I think that top would not look right - too long for a stripper top but too short for a dress.

I don't sew my own clothes from scratch, but I'm always altering the ones that I buy either online or at stores. My measurements are far from standard and I like to have victoria secret support on the dancefloor so I find myself nipping, tucking, and cutting just about everything I get to conform to my bodyshape better and dancing style. I've messed up a few pieces in the beginning, I won't lie, but I'm a pro now and it doesn't take me half as long to make a few changes. The great thing about it is that I never have to worry about someone showing up with my outfit on.

I just recently started sewing my own costumes. For farics use I use lycra with a 2 or 4 way stretch. I'm using some costumes I already have for patterns and altering them. So far so good, I've already got girls at my club begging for me to make them stuff, I may be on my way to a new bussiness!

I was in school for apparel design before something went horribly wrong and so I know the rudiments of pattern drafting, fabric selection, garment construction, all that junk and have thought seriously about making some stuff of my own , especially after seeing the stuff that the costume lady that makes the rounds has. The cuts designs are good but I know I could do better. The stuff is so simple that cutting out the pieces would take longer than whipping it together with the zig-zag stitch

I would love that! I'm only making one style of thongs ut I'd love the options of other styles.

    Guen Goddess.....

I need to pick yer brain sometime. A feature pal of mine used to have an outfit I adore... I dunno SHIT about making clothing, so terms are lost to me, but I wonder if I tell ya what it looked like and how it went together, if you could tell me if its doable and if you could do it?

I'd love to learn to make my own thongs..... they're so expensive for the amount of fabric!

I have several in one particular style I like, can I just take it apart, copy the pieces to make a pattern, and put it back together? Or am I totally over-simplifying?

One thing I've got from sewing is more is better. If you make patterns from taking apart thongs make sure you allow extra seem allowances (you can always trim it later) I usaully try to fold the edge of the fabric in so it doesn't come apart though.
