    Default Thinking about DJing

    I love music.

A lot more than most dancers. I am also very knowledgable about different bands and genres. I download new stuff all the time. I love making mixed CDs and I have good taste. Sometimes I think I'd be a great DJ.

What is it like to be a strip club DJ? Do you need some sort of training or lots of experience usually? Do women ever do it or is it only men? I've never hear of a stripper turning DJ, but maybe it's time to start hearing more female voices over the system speakers. Maybe it would inspire more customers to get dances if they are experiencing more femininity (sort of a subliminal thing).

Maybe this is some sort of half-cooked curiosity...but sometimes I think I'd rather be picking out the songs and announcing 2 -for-1 specials instead of prancing around in my panties. A lot of DJs make more $$ than some dancers, especially in my club.

I was a DJ before I was a stripper. It would be hard for me to be able to give you 100% accurate advice though, since I was in college and just out of college for radio while I did it... so I technically had prior training to an extent. I stood out in the sea of male DJs, however... sometimes that can be good, sometimes it can be bad. I've had more dancers act like I had no authority over the music because I was part of the vagina species... but it didnt get out of control. I'd say SOME experience with DJ equipment would be helpful, but you wouldnt need to be OMFG Super Radio Expert to do the job.

Wow Paige...if your voice is as sexy as your appearance, then I'm sure you did a great job. haha!
I know nothing about DJ equipment. I guess that would be a kind of important, huh?

As a Dj I would say you should at least have a "basic" understanding of the mechanics involved (going from 1 cde to the next..etc) That can be easily learned. As far as female dj's, I have only met 2 in 15 years of my travels. IMO and this is my very humble opinion, I dont think it always works out for the best as far as the custys go. Most of them like hearing "one of the guys" getting in thier heads telling them the girl on stage is hot ( they feel its like one of the buddies telling them) Sometimes the females can be "too hard" on the custys, calling them losers etc etc (yes the guys do it too but it is a little different). Some guys would be threatened or offended easier. Plus it causes drama between dancers.

I think Paige is the only successful one I have ever heard of and I would imagine she knew the in's and out's of the business, and many parts of it well in advance. Being a dancer has to be an amazing advantage. But i agree im sure there are good and bad things about it. Same as with males. But if you can pull it off i say go for it and good luck

Is there a DJ you know that can "show you the ropes"? At least someone who can give you the advice that would be helpful for getting your foot in the door. I think it just may be hard to get a club to hire a woman, clubs can be so bias it's terrible but I know the Hustler Club in Redlands had a female a while back, when it was still Deja Vu. Is there a club you think you might be able to get into?

Nah, I don't really know any of them on a level where they would start showing me what's up. I'm not exactly serious about it but I was just wondering about the ins and outs and possibilities.

I was a stripper turned Dj. I Dj'd when I was too preggo to dance. Since I had been working at the club for so long and had so many regulars, I made bank as a Dj. It was also fun but after doing it for awhile, monotonous work. It makes you more appreciative of how hard the djs work and it may also make you aware of how stupid some dancers are. I had to deal with dancer drama on a regular basis. Who knows, maybe your girls are pretty well disciplined at your club... Anyway, if you've worked at the club, you generally have an idea of how the rotation works, what kind of music the girls (and custys) like, etc. I'd say go for it. Give it a try. If you plan on dj'ing at the same club you dance at now you're already one step in the right direction and if you don't like it, just go back to dancing. Good luck you you!

I think that is the single best compliment and coolest show of appreciation of what we do I've seen or heard in forever!! Thank you!!

^^^^ It's true! You DJ guys (and girls) have to put up with so much stuff, from dancer drama, watching the customers, keeping an eye on the girls and make sure their following the rules... Jeeze, made my head spin. I always tip my Djs out better than "normal" just because I have been there and I can sympathize. Gotta love your Djs-if not, there'd just be a jukebox and they're no fun.

I have no problem whatsoever with female DJ's, if they have a voice that can be heard first of all. I have only ever worked with 2 of them. Both ex-strippers, incidentally. One was excellent, worked in radio, had a smooth voice and a killer music knowledge. The other was...well. Yeah. I have noticed most owners won't hire a female though, and that goes for the 2 clubs where the owners were female, too. Come to Philly, Mizz Hexx, I'll learn ya the ropes.

Yeah one of the clubs I've worked at that had DJs wouldnt hire women for that job. He thinks they should stick to dancing, waitressing, or tending bar. That fuck.

well the only time i have seen or rather say heard a female Dj in a strip club I didnt like it. None of the customers responded to her well but that was completly her fault. She was rather boring and seemed to try to use her "sexy voice" instead of making it fun. And then she would actually start to talk smack about customers if they didnt go to the rail for every girl. Now guy DJs do that too but when your in a club you want to have fun and not be made fun of from a females voice.
It hurt the girls alot cus the DJ took it personal and refused to play any more songs till ppl went on stage.

So my advice would be if you do it make sure your FUN!! you gotta be like that one girl that all guys have that are just one of the guys. if you make them feel awkward then every one sufferes.
