Exclamation Important Please Help- Divorce on the Net

One of my relatives is going through a divorce right now. He got married young, has a child with this woman, & did not expect things to turn out this way...so his financial resources to deal with the divorce are meager.
I KNOW I could Google some sites, but I was wondering if anyone here can attest to the usefulness of certain Internet resources for divorce proceedings....Any advice appreciated too. This is a hard time for him. Thank you so much for your time.

I know in some states you can file the papers yourself. Even get copies of templates or old documents to use as a guide. Only pay the court filing fees and notary public. Of course this is only advisable if both parties are agreeing to the divorce and all settlements. If it's not an "uncontested" divorce he should seek some kind of legal counsel.

    What state?

    California, LA County.
I don't want to post too much info, but he's well within his rights to file for divorce. His estranged wife wants to reconcile, but's he's not buying her story. He wants custody of his child also.

For custody issues, a lawyer is a must!

The only time you can get a cheap file-it yourself divorce is when you have no kids and no assets to fight over. They have a divorce package at Office Max and the like where all the relevant paperwork is included, all you do is fill it out and file it with the local authority. The paperwork is about $20, processing at the courthouse is about $250.

BUT If there is a custody issue, he is SOL. This is going to be expensive and he will need a lawyer.

I did my own with this book:

but there wasn't much arguement over the kid or the stuff. If there is, he might not avoid the lawyer.

    A couple more reference sites:

"He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"
