I love wine too. Right now my favorite is Siena by Ferrari-Carano. A little pricey at around $20-30 a bottle, but worth it if you have it. My boyfriend and I are looking to buy a case once we get caught up financially, so that we can have a few bottles for special occasions.

I don't really love it, but if I do have it I like: Rosemount Estate Shiraz 2002 or 2004

^^^ Rosemount Estate is my favorite inexpensive wine. I like their shiraz-cabernet blend.

You guys are getting it for a bargin out here, for an import. I was surprised, it is almost the same price I used to pay in Australia.

Australian wines have been cheaper latley due to a glut in the wine crop.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Australian wines cost about the same in the U.S. and Australia, but California wines cost a fortune in Tennessee. The same California wine I pay $6 for in Los Angeles will be $15 in Memphis, but Rosemount or Jacob's Creek will still be the same price I paid in Brisbane. Kinda funny when you think about it.

I saw a Rosemount Estate here for 12.60 or so I vaguley remmber seeing it in LA for between 6.50 and 8.50. I would have bought some but I had two reason no to, and only one of them was the baggage issue. I figure transport costs make the prices go up, and with the California wines, it is the repuation of California wines driving the price up. And the economist in me needs to state yes there could be other factors as well.

Different states' liquor laws and excise taxes can greatly affect the price of wine. I can't order a case of wine to be sent from a winery in California to my parents' house in Tennessee, because Tennessee law prevents it. I would have to go through a liquor distributor, which makes it prohibitively expensive. And a lot of Bible belt states have huge taxes on alcohol.

Rosemount Shiraz is good... so is Penfolds...

Though I am enjoying a glass (or few ) of an '02 Simi Cabernet (Alexander Valley). (If you like reds, I highly recommend this one, btw... as well as a few Meritage blends from the same region, though those tend to be a fair bit pricier.)

I guess it's not quite 'Aussie', though it's from a similar region - but I've found NZ makes some really good Sauvignon Blancs...

    mmm... wine.

I'm a wine freak. For reds, a nice Cabernet Franc (we have vineyards near here that make nice inexpensive ones) and for a white, Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt Reisling (the 2004 is great).

I found a dessert wine that is pricey but fantastic. Made in Canada, they're called ice wines. The grapes are frozen, on the vine, and the first pressing results in a syrupy, very sweet ice wine. There are a few brands available in the NE US and they're all good.

I don't like ice wine at all... too sweet and tastes like syrup. I figure anyone who likes that could just drink pancake syrup; it's cheaper and tastes similar. Different strokes for different folks, I guess!

The only dessert wine I like is port. I love a good port, the older the better. My boyfriend and I went to a fancy dinner in New York and got port with dessert; it was over 20 years old. The smell of it alone was worth the price of the drink. It was amazing!
