Default Anyone ever take an extended break?

I have been "retired" for almost- eek!- five years. I had two beautiful sons. I love being home with them. But my littlest will be three in December and in the the midst of "mentoring" a new dancer I realized I really miss it. Of course I miss the money, but you guys know there are a lot of other things about it that are appealing. I miss the workout, the "dressing up" aspect, the music- all knds of things. Plus my kids are getting more ad more expensive and they are going to need to go to college someday- so the money would be nice.

I'm giving serious though to going back but I am wondering if I only remember the good parts. When I get back on stage am I going to be like "My fucking feet hurt, I'm covered in brusies, and I forgot how hard this is...?" Lol. I was just curious if anyone else has taken an extended brak for whatever reason and hwo was the transition back to the stage?

-Also, this site is great. I wish I knew about it when I was dancing. (Was it even in existance then?-

I just started in May, so I haven't had a chance to take a break yet - but one thing that springs to mind for your situation is the overall environment of SC culture these days.

From everything I've read, both on this site and in a few books, it seems pretty clear that the business has undergone some major changes in the past four or five years or so (veterans - please feel free to correct or clarify here), and what seems to have changed the most is contact. Depending on what clubs were like when you used to dance, you may find yourself in a situation where much more contact than you were used to has become the expected norm. If you're used to giving fairly hands-off table dances in the past, this might be a difficult adjustment.

But that's just one aspect of the job, of course! Just something to consider and possibly factor in. I mention it only because you said it's been 5 years, as opposed to one or two. If you want to plunge back in again, more power to you! The dancing itself will come right back to you, like riding a bike (sorta).

I take breaks every few months to years for the past ten. It gets harder to go back the longer break you take from my experience.

Yes! That will happen. But, you will also get that great stage rush when all eyes are on you and you feel like the sexiest bitch in the room. At least that's how I felt when I finally went back full-time.

I danced a couple times a month for the last three years or so, but just went back to dancing as a primary job three months ago. It is harder on my body than I remember, but I make more money now than I ever did before. I guess I must have learned a thing or two.

I've been dancing for 2.5 years, and I've never worked a fall (usually take about 2-3 months off in the fall) anyways this is my first fall ever and I'm loving it. Usually when I go back I'm thoroughly refreshed and bank because of it.

    Good luck!

I feel great right after the break. However I quickly remember the reasons that I stopped!

hey! you go girl! i took off three years....thought i'd never go back but...eh...too many goals to waste my time in retail. it's amazing how different it all is after such a long break but before long, you might as well never have left. i've found more confidence in myself, can approach men with a new maturity that was never there before and am now taken seriously as a dancer whereas before i think i was just a silly drunk kid playing dressups. taking those three years off was the best thing i ever did. and now i make more than i ever did before even though the industry has dropped in general
    good luck!

Yea, I took a year... maybe a year and a half off a while ago. I'm glad I started again, though. Life is so much easier.

I'm just going back after taking a little over 3 years off. The hardest parts are #1: I'm not in perfect dancer form anymore, and #2 figuring a club. I'm in pdx so times they change quickly when it comes to types/$ etc... needless to saay I feel your pain. I'm sure you'll be sore, but just put a nice cold $100 bill on your boo boo, crack a beer and you'll be just fine. Good luck!

I've taken a few extended breaks myself. I love going back. I always go back a little..well plumper, but i don't worry about that too much. i just choose outfits that are flattering to my current size. I go in all nervous and the second i get back on stage it all comes back to me.

I've taken 6 months off before when I was feeling burned out. I worked various regular jobs when I took a break from dancing. But I missed the money and scheduling freedom that comes with dancing, so I went back.

I took a 2 year break. Ive been back for about 4 months now. I didnt get bruised again, but the first couple months were rough. I didnt make great money, I forgot how to do things, and I would get frustrated because I KNEW I could make money, but for some reason, it wasnt happening. But it got better and better every week, and finally I got wher I wanted to be at money wise and stayed there. It just took a couple months to find my grove again.

Whilst I still work in the stripping industry, I havn't actually worked in a strip club (I don't call the one night I did in that supposed strip club in Mackay as valid) for awhile now. Last time I did it wasn't that great unfortunately. My hustle was a little rusty ..lol! I would love to work in the strip clubs locally however due to the touching involved in private/lap dances... no way ! I did it once for two nights months ago as I was a little desparate for $$ .. and that is the only way you are getting me back in that environment.

Since it has been a little while for you... it might take you a bit to get the groove back however you will get it back. Just be patient with yourself.

I regularly took a few months off every year, it was the only way I could cope with the job, saving for the next big holiday.

Everytime I take a break, people and societies stereotypes get to me again which makes it harder for me to have the confidence that I used to have to get on stage not to mention everytime I took a break, I seem to gain more weight that I can keep off!lol Aging doesn't help either! boo hoo

I've taken breaks too. I took almost 2 years off early on. But once I got back, my hustle just seemed to skyrocket due to life experiences picked up while on break. For instance, I worked in IT during those two years, and hung out with LOTS of lonely men I worked with. Thus, I learned quite a lot about how to push their buttons.

As well, I was softer while not dancing. Even in non-stage intensive places that I mostly worked, the pounds just melt off once you start again!
