It is white, perarlessent, or black and multicolored? *generally* black and multicolored is worth more. Is the necklace gold and did the necklace come from Australia? I often found it very difficult to obtain anything over 9 carrot gold in Austrlaia. That is about all I know.

No worries, I used help with some touristy friends and such. Something is kicking in my head. Take it to a jewler and get the carrot rating of both the necklace and opal. I've seen a few times where slivers have been used instead of a whole opal. Although I have not seen that with what your describing.

Could you post a close-up picture? With carat weight? I have some white Australian opals someone gifted me, I'm not sure how much they're worth.

he told me that it was worth more than the tv he bought me, which was 1,900. he has bought me other jewelry and said it was worth a certain price, im just going to get it all appraised.

Actually I'm qutie curious on the necklace myself. I know it was a *bugger* to get more than 9ct gold in Australia. Well unless you wanted to pay ungodly sums, or went to foreign owned places. Most of the aussie shops, would only get the 18ct out for overseas customers.

Thats strange. I worked in a chainmaking factory here years and years ago. We used to make 18ct gold chains. I thought alot of our stock was for the Aussie market. Im not doubting you, I just wonder what the story is. Pity I didnt know...Originally Posted by cherryripeboy

No worries, just my personal experience.Originally Posted by aussiepunkshocker
Yep, the do have some one the Australian market. It was just a bugger finding them. You have better chance at a speciality opal store that dealt with foreigners, than any other kind of Jewler. Really used to piss off the Empress if we were looking for any jewlery in general, and all they had were 9ct chains. Of cousrse this lady of mine gets an alergic reaction to nickel... It is great for detecting inferor producs, but that is about it.
Australia is one of the largest producers of gold if I'm correct, there is no reason other than price, (also including higher export value) keeping it out of the market.
Someone else who knew where to look, would have better luck in the gold department. I did eventually learn where to look.
