    Default Straightener

I have gone through like 5 straighteners, all of them are "ceramic" ones, but none of them run smoothly through my hair like they are supposed to. I have been told that spending money on a good straightener is a really good investment, I haven't spent more that like $35 on one before. Will buying the expensive ones really make a huge difference?? If so what brand do I get and where??? I need a good one BAD

I like the Chi irons. I got mine on ebay, but you can buy them from your stylist. Expect to spend some money though. I love mine.

Its not a real fancy expensive one - but the wal-mart Revlon ceramic straightener - its like an ivory color....is my favorite tool. My room mate has a chi and both make my stubborn hair look the same wonderful smoothness. But mine was 120 bucks cheaper.

I like the Sedu from folica.com. It makes me hair ultra smooth and straight without having to blow dry first.

    They ship fast too

Does that straightener run smoothly through your hair? Mine makes my hair straight, but it doesn't go smoothly through my hair, it kinda...what's the word I want, tugs....on my hair....It doesn't go through my hair like all in one stroke...if that makes any sense

I like my Chi. Paid about 120 for it. Still works after a year or so of everyday use. Heats up very hot really fast. Sometimes spending a few extra bucks is worth it.

I know what you mean. I used to get that with my cheap irons. The straightening plates on the Sedu are really smooth...basically they look and feel like black glass. But the material is tourmaline or something that I can't spell

    Point is..it glides

^I second that...a ceramic iron, even a junky one, will never be less than $50/60.

My Jilbere was $80, and makes my thick, coarse, frizzy hair look perfectly sleek in 15-20 minutes (it used to take 2 hours when i used other irons)

I have and like the T3. It is expensive at nearly two hundred. But it's so worth it in my opinion. I saw an add out for a conair hair dryer that's like 60 bucks. It has this area in front of the dryer that combs ad seperates your hair as it dries. Then the hair goes over this velveted area for shine. I forget the name. Infiniti something??? Anyone know of it??

Take small sections of your hair and brush through it before straightening. If you have naturally curly hair (like me), this little extra step will help pull kinks out for the iron.

Emily, I so want the T3 Tourmaline!!! Where did you get yours?

On sephora, but that's because I had to get it ASAP (some stupid biatch stole my chi at work and I wanted one immediately.....but then it came up a week later, which is why I have them both)

    I'd get it on ebay.

I have a HairArt straightener. They use them salons and I got mine years ago for $250.

I want to get another one (I'm paranoid about losing mine) but I'm stuck between a CHI, Solis, Sedu, and Tourmine.. Eh.. I don't know :/

I love the wet dry straightner from sephora, it cuts down on the amount of time it takes to straighten which is good. I can only imagine that it is bad for your hair because you can straighten it while wet..but it does wonders for me. I also saw that conair blow dryer advertised...im going to look into it more....

if are using a flat iron (straightener) every day, or almost everyday you NEED to be investing in a good one! everything says "ceramic" or "ionic" these days, but as someone just mentioned, it usally means the heated plates are metal and just coated or painted with ceramic, which will wear off and fry your hair. the pricier ones (T3, Chi and Hai) have plates that are ceramic ALL the way through. you will be able to tell that your hair will straighten more evenly, quicker and not feel as fried. youll also not have to replace it as often --- the cost evens out, a $50 iron you have to replace every year or a good one for around 150 that will last you four. i know the T3 also has, like, a four year warranty and most other have at least a one or two.

hah, funny i dont actually use a flat iron because i am cursed with dead straight hair, but i used to sell them. i have found that the same holds true for ceramic hair dryers (curling irons too, any heat styler). my hair is triple processed platinum and for a year i NEVER dried it heat, ever! i just set aside an evening or two to wash it and let it air dry. it was a pain in the ass. twice i tried to dry it and it turned out huge, frizzy and i was afraid it would break off. a friend of mine gave me an old travel size T3 dryer (worth $130), i kind of snorted and the cost of it but it REALLY makes a difference. i let my hair dry halfway before blasting it but the ceramic dryers are super quick and dont make my hair look like the bride of frankenstiens. im seriously considering investing in the $200 full size T3. yikes!

    just my two(hundred) cents!

Also if you use a heat protectorate, or a smoothing serum it will help the health of your hair - plus it will help the flat iron/tool to "glide" through your hair. There's tons of products out there, so you can shop around and find one that works best with your type of hair.

I highly recommend Biolage's smoothing serum!

    I hope this helps!

The new Conair Infiniti Straightener ( I have the 2") has solid ceramic plates that heat up to about 400 degrees (F) in 30 seconds. It will run you about $50-60, and it works really really well (ps, I tried that Revlon one and it is crap, esp compared to this one). This is the most I have ever gotten for my money on ANY styling tools.
With all the stupid things guys will say, stay cool.

Jumping in again...but, ideally, I'd like a straightener that I can also curl the ends with. I know they exist, but I'm having trouble finding them...any recommendations? I thought I read that the T3 had one, but I can't seem to find it...what about Chi? Others?

    Thanks!
