    Default How's your DJ

OMG, I went to two clubs this weekend and I couldn't believe how much talking the DJ did. One club the DJ couldn't help but to insult the patrons every chance he got with...

    "If you broke, go home"
"Tip this ladies or I will close this MF"
"Don't come in here with your rent money"
    etc. etc. etc.

This wasn't high end club but it wasn't a dive either. Okay so I go to another club and the DJ wasn't insulting but couldn't stop talking. I'm not homophobic but how can I enjoy my fantasy with a guys voice always talking over every song.

I'm a big believer in the women making as much as possible so the guys not spending should leave but I have never heard DJ's talk so much. I'm use to them clearly saying something about the Dancer, Drink Specials & Promotions. Where else does this happen? I know it is not this bad in Canada, Some of LA, Tampa & Other places.

Where I work now has some ok DJs and some too talkative ones. Nothing downright horrid, however. At least they arent boring!

I like a DJ not to talk too much, but for some reason the owner of my club thinks a lot of chatter is good . . . however if they're really funny, it's OK. We have a DJ who exorts the customers to tip, but not in an insulting manner. And I'm sorry, but it makes me laugh when he says "Tip my girls, you rich motherfuckers!" Our other night DJ is considerably quieter but is a whiz with the music; he totally knows what to play for me.

Basically, I think on the weeknights you want the laid-back guy, and on the weekends, the loud one who can pump up a party crowd. But they shouldn't make you think, "Damn, I'm hearing too much talking."

i think my biggest pet peeve is one my dj's at my old club while switching from song to song has pauses in the music and just talks, I hate it. Play the damn music, don'[t stop, and don't draw all attn to yourself by just wasting time between girls - it's not like the girls aren't ready to go up or come down either.

    did that make sense?

    yeah,

I think I finally figured out that the VIP didn't have a different sound system so the DJ was just as loud in the VIP than on the main floor.

I wish a few of the small clubs I work in that have DJ's would talk and help us make money. These customers who aren't tipping and not buying dances need some "pushing" or need to get the fuck out.

We need a jivey DJ with some game, not a hicky country guy with Wrangler jeans on and a knife pouch hooked on his belt.

    I don't have a D.J. We just have a disc changer.

The DJ is supposed to help the girls make money. If the guys aren't tipping, then he is doing his job by calling them on it. Maybe if y'all would put some money down, he wouldn't have to remind you so much.

DJ Captain Rob, I'm working bookings in rural South Dakota and Montana, to name a few clubs that actually have DJ's. Some of these guys aren't too fashion forward.LOL.

Clubs can kick out who they want. If the club doesn't like the guys sitting up front not tipping, then kick them out. The rest of the guys in the club don't have to hear insults. Believe it or not, we are not all bad guys.

Actually, a lot of clubs wont kick out drink-buying customers... even if they dont tip the girls. There are plenty of times where a DJ's romting will inspire tippage. Also, talking up a girl's features and/or credits will often help too.

Does DJ harrassment really make guys tip or buy dances? I'm all for a DJ helping us to sell dances, but I really think it's tacky when the DJ says stuff about how nobody's tipping over and over ALL NIGHT. I don't notice it helping at all, and I wonder if it doesn't kill the buzz a bit...

Well you can do it the right amount of overdo it when it comes to getting the custys to tip.Harping on the guys through the song or constantly I dont agree with, but If no one is at the stage and the dancer is dying out there, it is helpful to tastefully coax them up there. Or more important, when the guys are sitting at the stage and not tipping! (We have manatory tipping at stage). But as far as kicking people out, we dont require people that are not sitting at the stage to tip (especially every girl, tastes are different).
They still payed the cover and are buying drinks...

I'll admit there have been times where I get pissed at the guys and may step outta bounds but they have to be REAL losers before I flip. Not when the girl starts flipping 1 min into her first song that there isnt a stage full of cash.

It helps if you do it tastefully, get too hostile and you create hositility and offend people. Word of mouth is key in this business, you dont ever want to get that reputation. Just my 1 1/2 Cent

lol, one time our dj turned down the music when it was slow and had "story time" where he read us these weird short stories he'd written! It was good for a laugh and it gives our club character!

We cant seem to keep dj's where i am. we have one that works most of the week, but he's burned out. he's repetitive and often plays the same songs over and over and over...
