    Default When we are old?

Okay this is a dumb thread but here it goes. I just saw a commerical for a Tony Bennett concert that is obvoisly geared at old people and thats cool but i got me to thinking when we are old what will be like? Like in the nursing home will be shakin are bootys to fergi or listen to old boy bands. I think its going to neat to see the proggrisan of what is "old people music". Or do we natrully aquire the taste for old Perry Como albumbs the older we get. Just something to ponder post your thoughts on our genration in the home here.

There is no way in hell that I'll ever acquire the taste for Perry Como albums, lol! I'm a lot closer to the home than most of you girls, but I still love my hard music, love to go out dancing etc.

I do however, love Dean Martin (or any of the Rat Pack for that matter) but I've loved them since I was a child, and they won't count.

My grandmother, who passed away two years ago at age 92, still watched MTV so I'm hoping staying young is in my genes.

Ha, I dont see myself aquireing taste for perry como either! I plan on being in the worlds oldest punk band when im in my 80's although by the way some of the old bands are still going I think there's going to be a fair bit of competition :-D
I think some people probably quieten down a bit and like mellower things as they get older, but definatly not everyone, or even maybe not all the time perhaps. I feel sorry sometimes for old people stuck in those homes when it comes to entertainment. If that happens to me and some geezer comes in playing the sort of tunes my grandparents listened to - I shall riot!

Heh.. My Mother met Dean years and years ago. She was in Flight Attendant school in MN, and he was there filming a movie called "Airport". She was a background extra.

We will totally be groving to Eminem or whatever else is all popular these days and the young people are going to be like. "EEWW! Grandma's listening to her old people music again!"

Oh lordy, I don't want to get old!

I AM old, OK. I still work out, ride the motorcycle, travel, dance to whatever music is happening at the time. I'm not as strong or lean or fast or heal as well as in the past, and that's just the fact of life. Getting old doesn't mean that you have to give up and let entropy take over.

    Well said, JZ.

Although I do think that people my age tend to look younger than our moms did at our age. We work out and eat better, I think, but it also has to do with styles being less severe than they were a few years back.

I can totally see myself singing along to "my humps", then leaning over the the lady next to me, and saying 'back in the day, I used to own this song. I made a ton of money dancing to it. Yep, those were the days"

I don't think she was knocking getting old just pondering what would be your flavor of music when you reach the senior years ( treading lightly ) . Most of the bands or groups whatever you want to call them dont stay together for that long but perhaps Dio or someone like him will throw out a few tunes now and then . Most of the real hard stuff like Pantera , Megadeath etc they wont have a a voice left or a yell left at 60 .

But Tony B actually had a comeback that was in part to the younger generation picking up on his groove - the market for music in general is driven by the younger crowd not the dust farters .

It might already be happening. My little brother is 14 and considers Green Day to be "classic rock."

Hehe, I'm 36, so does that make me "over the hill"?

I'll make a prediction- "My Humps" will be totally forgotten in 20 years. You'll hear it played as an "oldies" selection on am radio, but that is about it. Those kind of pop songs don't have any staying power.

I do think Eminem will be around and getting air play for a long time, though. I could totally see some geezer kickin' it at his 100th b-day party. The Beasite Boys are like the Eminem of my generation, and you still hear them played all the time.

*I didn't like The Beastie Boys back in the 80's either.

Oh, and y'all should plan on living about 140+ years. We are so close to curing cancer and heart disease ( the top two killers in the USA), and that will increase life expentency by double. Sort of what antibiotics did for life expentancy back in the 40's.

If you want to see a preview of our future folks, just check out a concert at your state fair of a band you listened to when you were in high school or college, now trying to get at much mileage out its sixteenth minute of fame as possible.

See if these links make you feel old.

I dance to Billy Idol a lot, and last night this girl goes, "Where do you FIND this random shit nobody ever heard of?" It was so sad. I thought this other girl was a fluke but evidently not... we have two stages open when it's busy, and whoever is on stage one picks the music. I told the girl going up on two against me that we were dancing to Billy Idol, and she goes, "Who the fuck is Billy Idol??"

It is a sad, sad day when STRIPPERS don't recognize Billy Idol!

I had something like this happen to me at a Bachelor party! I usually just bring my iPod and plug it into the guy's stereo, and I pre load the play list with a variety of songs to appeal to a lot of different people.

At least 4 guys at the party asked me who did that song "Mony-Mony". I said "Billy Idol". The guys responded with "Who's that?"

I figured that Billy Idol was at least as famous as Motley Crue amongst the strip club set.

    Go figure!

Aw, shit. I would've told them Tommy James and the Shondells. That would be even worse.

Their poor little heads would have exploded.

This reminds me of one of the lines from a Margret Cho stand up bit. She was talking about the "music of our time" and and the old folks home and, in her best geezer voice demanded that "Hungry Like the Wolf" be played again.

Her point was people will continue to listen to the music that they imprinted on. I found it was generally around the mid nineties when I pretty much lost interest in new music, although every once in a while something will catch my attention. At home, it's pretty much the "Retro Active" (late 70's to early 90's punk/ new wave) music station on my digital cable box. Probably will stay that way.

Those who like Perry Como generally were young when he was popular. I doubt he'll recruit a cadre of new fans as the rest of us age.
"He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"
