    Default Cerabellar Hypoplasia

I have a cat that had a couple of kittens. My fault - I was supposed to get her fixed....and foolishly thought I could keep her inside. I'm dumb. Anyway, there are 2. They are just now at the point where they really get around a lot. About a month old. I noticed about 2 weeks ago that one crawled around a lot.....and the other sort of.....falls. All four limbs function...just not real well....or perhaps he has no balance. Eventually I figured out that he has Cerabellar Hypoplasia. The short of it is that his cerabellum is not formed quite right, so while he's a happy and well fed kitty....his coordination is worse than mine while drunk and balancing on one foot while trying to screw in a lightbulb with my eyelid.

Anyone else ever have one of these little guys? I can't give him up. I would never know how someone else would care for him....and he's quite playful....once he has his head anchored

How'd you figure that out? I'm no veterinarian, but I imagine there's a number of neuro disorders that could cause those symptoms.

No, I've never had an animal like that. You're a nice guy to take care of it.

That's so cute. I wouldn't mind caring after a kitten with that disease. I mean, I know it's seriously but a stumbly kitten is kinda cute.

I'd never even heard of such a condition! But, I'm glad that you are keeping and caring for him! Post pics when you get a chance.

I knew a woman with a narcoleptic cat. She loved to watch him try to walk across the floor but instead pass out & fall over. (She had a mean sense of humor.) As far as I know, her cat lived into adulthood....if you care about him, get used to accomodating his disorder.

I lived at a house in Orlando, there was a litter of kittens in the backyard. We took them and the mother in and took care of them. One of the kittens, our favorite, started spasming one night. We ended up taking him to the HOLY SHIT EXPENSIVE 24 hour vet. He stopped breathing on the way there, as we were pulling in. I don't recall exactly what happened....I think he had a stroke. He lived, and i think 460 bucks later, we named him Pudge. He walked into walls, would totally miss the doorway by 6 inches, would be walking across the living room and suddenly fall over and then look confused and meow like a bad imitation of a meow, If that makes sense. Best cat ever. Seriously. That girl still has him, he's 16 and doing fine. Keep it.

I couldn't possibly give him up....I wouldn't know where he was going. The good thing is from the research I've done, there is no pain....probably not even a realization of limited ability. I just have to make sure he doesn't whack his head on anything

Those cats are the cutest little buggers in the world. I loved seeing them come in at my old job. Their owners were always completely in love with them. It's so odd and heartwarming to see a creature as graceful as the cat be so clumsy. Cats normally get it if their moms are infected with panleukopenia or are given a live or modified live vaccine of it while their moms were pregnant. He probably won't grow as large as most other cats but he should be able to live a long, happy, and healthy life with proper care. And he will learn to compensate for his disability as he gets older. I would love to have a cat like that.

The gray one is "Silent Bob". He's not actually silent...but he's quit, in comparison. The black guy is "Wobbles" - the one with the issues. He's doing fine....sometimes needs some support....just my sorta guy
