    Default i'm narcoleptic!!

so they say! as the insurance i had under my parents was ending i came into a last minute panic and saw several doctors to check up on the things that had been nagging me that i had never gotten around to confronting. in the last two years i have been plagued off and on by uncontrollable fatigue. i've always been a very nappy person, i sleep easy and hard and always seem to fall asleep during the day. i thought i was just lazy or one of ''those people'' who needed more rest but my need to nap all the time was getting in the way of my daily life. i got really bummed out and embarrassed and frustrated on the fact that i almost never could rest enough to get through twelve waking hours.

so my doctor prescriped a sleep study at a local hospital and they hooked me up with wires all over my head and body to a machine and i slept all night and took intermittent naps all day while someone monitored by brain waves in another room . by this time i had done a lot of research on sleep apnea, which they did not diagnose me with, and narcolepsy, which they (not to my complete suprise) did.

it is a neurological disorder in which my brain does not regulate my sleep cycles adequately so even if i sleep a ton, it does not necessarily mean my brain and body is rested. narcolepsy is most commonly associated in popular culuture with people falling asleep in tragically comedic situations, driving, eating, shopping, etc. this is characteristic with the most extreme cases, but i have not had that bad of an experience (though i did fall asleep at work once, bikini and stripper heels and all though, out on the floor -- haha).

has anybody else had experience with this? how do you treat it? i am not a huge fan of medicating myself but am taking well to it. i want to still explore other options.

    thanks!

A family friend has it,he refuses to take the medication though. It sucks , I feel bad for him he is not allowed to drive(he does) and he passes out everywhere. That sucks for you, sorry I dont have any info.
