    Default need diet help PLEASE!!!!!!!

Ok sorry if I am repeating a post but I am not finding the answers I need.

I would like to drop about 15 pounds by November. Thats an average loss of less than 3 pounds a week. I dont want to buy any more pills, I dont want to join a gym.

Before my period I cant stop eating, I have really tried eating healthy foods, but I cant sleep hungry. I dont want to starve myself and seeing how this is a realistic goal, I shouldnt have to.

I do like healthy foods like veggies, whole grains, and some pasta. I found out a 12 ounce soda has 10 tablespoons of sugar in it and I threw all my soda in the garbage can outside about 10 minutes ago. I'm trying to give up my sweet tea but to a southerner that kinda against the law!

I heard dont eat more than anything larger than your fist. I heard drink lots of water. I heard about Boost but I drink Ensure. I do like that Propell stuff. I heard about water pills and laxatives and enemas but I'll just saw EW!

I'm not big on sweets to start with but I find fruit a little to sweet for me. I'm not diabetic but I'm just not into sweets. Ok I eat reese's peanut butter cups a lot. No cakes, candies, or ice cream. I suppose I have to put Captain Morgan under sweets but I only drink at work, not everyday. I dont have alcohol in my house.

I used to run track in high school but have been really lazy at home. I'm going to start walking this morning. I knew I got a dog for some reason! I babysit on my nights off for another dancer and I guess I can take her for walks. Walking is not going to do it though. Its been chilly and rainy here for about 2 weeks, so I have to find something to do inside while I have a 2 year old around.

I have Tae Bo Boot Camp and its kicking my ass. I do sit ups, push ups, crunchs and leg lifts. I cant do squats, its too much on my knees.

I just started doing all the exersize again 2 days ago and I am trying to work myself up to where I used to be and then some. I want killer abs and a nice butt. I want the energy I used to have.

    My questions:

    Am I doing enough?
    What more can I do?
What kind of healthy snacks can I take to work?
    Any suggestions?

Sorry this post is so long and thanks for reading.

My advice? Add some weight training in there with your cardio. Cut out the pasta and peanut butter cups. If you must have sweet tea, use artificial sweetener (Splenda tastes best). Drink lots of water. Veggies, lean protein and whole grains only. Stay away from processed foods (sugar, white flour etc.)

If you want to drop faster, limit the whole grains to once per day. My way of life is controversial to some (I'm hypoglycemic and in Atkins Maintenance for the rest of my life), but it keeps me under 100 lbs and very toned.

You don't have to give up alcohol, but keep this in mind. When you're in fat burning mode, your body will burn alcohol before it burns fat. I find too much is detrimental to weight loss until you're at your goal. Best to stick to an occasional regular rum and diet mixer. Captain Morgan has too much sugar. You might also try a glass of wine. Keep in mind, as you're burning fat, you become a lightweight with alcohol.

(And before I get jumped on for the "under 100lbs", no need for concern. I'm reaaaallly short with a teeny tiny frame.)

Snacks? I keep low fat cheese sticks and raw almonds handy. Celery and natural peanut butter is good. I'd suggest apples but they don't work for me (too high in sugar). If you must have chocolate once in awhile, make it a teeny piece of high quality dark chocolate and saaaavor it.

Eat 4 to 6 small meals instead of 3 bigger ones. Never let yourself get hungry.

Hope this helps. I dropped the extra weight I gained sitting at a desk in 2 1/2 months (20 lbs).

    Good luck Gem!

Edited to Add: Venus Goddess is really knowledgable with all of this too. Maybe she'll pop in and comment.

Good for you for getting out and walking. For outside the gym stuff, go check out magazines like Oxygen for workouts you can do at home. They have a lot of great workout plans. Your body will get used to the Tae Bo after a bit and you need to keep challenging it. As for building the butt, I've found the best thing is squats. I know you said you can't do them, but (modified) you might be able to. I have crap knees and I manage squats by using a stability ball. I place the ball between my back and a wall and squat that way. Much easier. Also corrects for a lot of postural imbalances.

I'd recommend eating every three hours while awake. Nothing big, but small meals and snacks that will keep your metabolism going and keep you from getting ravenously hungry. As for snacks at work, I take along Instone protein puddings, small salads, wraps, almonds, apples, baked pitas with garlic, whole wheat fig newtons, cereal (low sugar!), South Beach cookies (yum), yogurts, pomegranates, Quaker breakfast cookies, etcetera ad nauseum. That's off the top of my head. Basically, just keep the protein high, and the calories, refined sugars and saturated fat low.

Speaking of saturated fat and refined sugar: Reese's cups are . Over half of the calories come from fat, with 5 grams being from saturated fat (serving size 2). And if you were freaked by how much sugar soda contains, just remember that a 2-pack of reese's cups has 21g. They're fine for occasional use, as on a cheat day, but your body could use those 240 calories for something more filling and nutritionally sound. You might try natural peanut butter alone with a piece of dark chocolate instead. It would be more filling and better for you, as neither the peanut butter nor the chocolate has been overly processed.

offers many substitutions for most foods. Very, very useful (especially when you're PMSing and can't think of what the hell you *should* be eating and start fantasizing about pumpkin bread. Is that just me?). You'll notice that there's a link off the Reese's page that will give options for sugary foods that are a little more nutritionally sound. You can put in recipes and have them give substitutions to make the meals healthier. You can even get the facts on fast food. Use the search button and use it often. I do. Best of luck and PM me if you need more info. I'm studying to get my RD right now and I'm a certified personal trainer, so most of this is me *not* speaking out of my ass.

Oh, and (because I didn't go on long enough before) when choosing ready-made foods, go for low-sugar rather than low fat. The reason? When they take out fat, they add sugar. When they take out sugar, they add sugar substitute. Lowers calories.

As an example: reduced fat oreos have only *10* fewer calories than regular oreos. Hunt's chocolate pudding weighs in at 140 calories, the sugar-free kind is 90.

    hey fellow gemini...

Another great workout video for all around toning is denise austin core strength (has sections for abs, legs, arms) and the carmen electra fit to strip.

As for your eating it could be improved...Best advice is to write down EVERYTHING you eat, portions, and calories, fat. That is the only way to keep yourself honest. You would be amazed at what people eat and dont "count" then wonder why they cant lose weight. (im a trainer and i have done this with my clients)

Anything over 1 lb a week is going to require a strict idea. My advice? Cut out the fake sugar and most of the real sugar. The only way to get into really clean eating and losing the last 10 lbs that is the HARDEST..is to have a very clean diet and that includes getting rid of that sweet tooth. Fake sugars can have harmful side effects, and some research says that they mimic sugar in the insulin response on the body and cuase you to crave MORE sugar. Translation--you will still want sugar and hold on to fat, even if there arent calories.

For two weeks try eliminating alcohol, bread, sugar, extra fat , etc. Eat oatmeal and protein in the am, and stick to chicken, fish and vegetables and very little brown rice if you must. Yes, its SUCKS. I know. You would be amazed at what can happen in two weeks. Sugar is an addiction and u have to break the cycle!!

    good luck!

Sugar Free Chocolate pudding is a lifesaver. I'm not a chocolate person but at that time of the month I crave it. I eat the Jello brand with a squirt of Land O Lakes whipped cream (sweetened with Splenda). Yummy and no blood sugar spikes.

I love Tae Bo, I'm missing one of my tapes right now though. =( Maybe you could try taking up some kind of martial art class? They're fun and you can have other goals other than the weight loss (belts, skills, ect). And depending on your school/art form they can be useful. I just recently switched to a new school where they do a lot more work and I'm planning on taking up JuiJitsu soon.

Low Carb diets like Dylan mentioned are good, but you need to follow it for the long term.

My health has improved immensely on Atkins. As far as upping my energy and my being able to eat lots and very well, it has been amazing. However, I realize it's controversial and not for everyone. But for some people, it works for their body.

So my advice would be cut out refined sugar and flour for sure, and limit your intake of grains and high sugar fruits. Get your carbs from veggies and low sugar fruits. And make sure you're getting enough protein and healthy fats.

We're definitely in the minority. Once you mention Atkins most people think we sit around eating slabs of bacon and sucking on sticks of butter, lol!

Ditto on those healthy fats. I cook everything in olive oil. I use peanut or sesame oil to flavor stir fry meals. Some people like coconut oil but it just tastes yukky to me, YMMV.

I think the target of 14lb in two months is very acheivable.

I would go with cutting the carbs- no bread or pasta certainly. Same for high sugar fruit. Lots of water- nothing else if you can manage.

Snack ideas- Small cheese - like 35g amount. Otherwise two tablespoons of cottage cheese. A scambled egg- just with water. Easy to eat/prepare

If you dont want to restrict your diet a great deal with then just upping the activity to an hour a day should be plenty to start you towards your goal.

    Good Luck with it hun

When I'm on a diet, I tend to start a meal with a serving or two of veggies or a serving of veggies and soup (no oil/cream or butter based- use veggie or broth based soup.). Wait 5 minutes after eating before you start eating the rest of your meal. The veggies and broth help you feel fuller. If I want seconds, I'll nibble on another serving of veggies, and if 'm still hungry, allow myself seconds.
I focus on whole grains for my carbs. I get a serving of whole grains with every meal.

I'll allow myself 2-3 "treat" snacks a week.

I'll also allow myself refined carbs like pasta/bread couple of times a week. I don't believe in cutting out anything because that makes me binge.

Basically, I focus on whole grains, lean protein, and lots and lots of veggies and fruits. The bonus is that I lose weight and my skin loooks fantastic.

I love soup! I take the microwaveable soups to work, when I'm hungry...voila, 1min.30sec. I have a satisfying, healthy meal.
