Default help a fool (LA area)

so... i'm in LA right now. i came to witness an impossible love, not to work, and i'm well aware that "there's no money in california", like many of you have said already.

but since i'm here for a few months, i figured that i need to work 2-3 nights a week to support myself.

i did a search here on the boards and i read the club reviews on this site, i asked around and after doing all this, last night i went to check out three clubs. it didn't go very well.

i work at spearmint rhino in London, upscale gown club yadda yadda and that's the only club i've ever worked at so far, so that is pretty much my idea of strip club.

the clubs i checked out last nite were all in west hollywood, since somebody had told me that i wouldn't have problems being hired there even tho i'm on a turist visa and i don't have a work permit.

i went to star strip on la cienega first and i didnt like it at all...dancers were walking around some barefoot, some in their jeans, the stage looked more like a bath tub and so on. then i went to seventh veil on sunset and i didn't like it very much either, and at last i went to the body shop on sunset, and even tho i wasn't crazy about it i asked a dancer (she was actually really nice) and she took me to management. they look at me and say ok come work tomorrow (saturday) night and i'm like "ok great" but then one of them asked to see my tattoos (i've got big ones on my arms) and suddenly they changed their minds saying "the tattoos are unacceptable, you can only work daytime come on monday at noon". they were deaf to my protests (with these tattoos i work in a gown club and i make money!) and not very nice in general.

ok now i feel a bit lost, maybe i'll go on monday hoping that if i make some money they will let me work at night, but what if they won't? is it normal that a club like the body shop full of young customers won't hire me for my tattoos? do i have any chance of getting hired at chains like spearmint rhino if i'm not a US citizen and i'm on a turist visa? where else can i go?

    any feedback would be appreciated

    thank you ladies

The Body Shop is the worst club in Los Angeles. You really don't want to work there anyway.

The Seventh Veil and Star Strip are owned by the same people, and Star Strip is an abysmally shitty club. Poor management, trashy drunk junkie dancers, bad clientele. The Seventh Veil used to be great but has gotten pretty slow lately. I worked there until this past Wednesday, and the past several weeks have just been getting progressively worse and worse.

Why not try to get a legitimate working visa?

yeah...i'm gonna go to the SR in downtown and try to talk to management. i doubt it tho, in london they always check your passport and stuff, i guess it's the same here, it's a big company and they don't wanna hire anybody illegally. i wish i could get a working visa but it's sooo hard. i hardly see the US government giving away visas to exotic dancers, even tho i'd love to be wrong.

Why don't you just stay here anyway even though you would be illegal, there are millions of others who do it all the time. (Sorry, in a sarcastic mood today)

Because you can't come back for three years if they catch you. Also, S R is very legal world wide.

What about 4 Play or Plan B? I never danced in LA but by the reviews at they sound tolerable (from a dancers POV anyway).

I hear that Spearmint in California is very high mileage - so if you're used to London standards be prepared to be shocked.

Honestly, although the Body Shop's daytime sucks, the night is pretty good...and it's odd that they wouldn't hire you based on tattoos, simply because they cater to a young crowd, many of whom fit the "rocker" mold.

If you do end up working the dayshift, however, I believe it's easy to simply stay on into nightshift...and once you've worked there a night, it should be easy to simply walk back in for another night. This club can get really busy and can have a lot of girls working, so they honestly may not even notice you or realize that they told you you couldn't work nights.

Seriously though...don't discount body shop's nightshift til you've tried it yourself...some girls do really really well here, consistently. It tends to get super busy late at night due to its prime location on the sunset strip. And, if it isn't working out, you can easily leave whenever you want. I might still be working there if it wasn't so darn close to my campus-too many close calls on ppl I know wandering in!

Try Cheetah's on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood. Most girls have tattoos and piercings there and it is damn near encouraged! Very laidback atmosphere. I have done fairly well dropping in now and then. For more info, PM me.

NO!! This place is fun to hang out as a customer, and the management and girls are awesome, but there is NO MONEY. I worked there for 8 months and barely scraped by.

The question is, what sort of contact are you comfortable with? There is a lot of money in City Of Industry if you're okay with higher mileage. Hollywood = lame touristy young customers who don't spend money. NoHo/Van Nuys and downtown are more local types, lots of Mexicans....there is more of a mix in West LA and Valley clubs. I've been dancing here on and off for about two years and think the most money is in extras clubs, even if you don't do extras. They still get a lot of customer traffic.
