Default working out and breast implants...

i go to the gym 3-5 times a week and i usually do cardio (running/jogging/walking on the treadmill, using ellipticals, occasionally bikes, etc.) and i've recently started using weight training machinery (seated leg press, abdominal crunches, hip abductor, etc.) and i've noticed my muscles thickening as i lose weight. problem is, i'm still trying to lose about 20 lbs. of fat and i'm becoming thicker and actually gaining weight. what's a good way to use all of my muscles and tone them while losing the body fat and without bulking up too much? i would like to come out of this with a nicely toned yet feminine figure. any advice is much appreciated...

also, i'm planning on getting implants within the next 3 to 4 months and i've been reading that they all eventually break, and i was wondering how any of you ladies who have undergone the surgery handle exercise (especially as dancers)? have you had any horrible accidents due to any physical stress? i'm afraid of ever having to be lopsided, lol.

sorry for the length, and thanks in advance...

I can't really help you with the bulking out thing....

But implants do leak and you have to get them replaced every 10 or so years anyway. They aren't going to burst open without serious trauma. I had a fear of going on an airplane on them and I ended up okay.

I do cardio and weights. My implants are under the muscle and just "squish" down when I do something to my pecs. The implants are made to withstand that. I sleep on my belly (some doctors recommend this to help keep the pocket open) and massage daily. They won't pop with normal use.

There are tons of bodybuilders that have implants, so if they can do it, my puny ass can do it

i have the same problem with bulking up too much in my legs. i love the elliptical trainer, but it adds too much muscle mass

the best cardio i've found to burn fat and keep muscle lean is brisk walking for 30-45 min. i also do pilates 3-5 times a week, which helps to create a longer and leaner shape to the muscle. i like the winsor buns and thighs series of exercises.

since my upper body doesn't have the problem of getting too bulky, i lift 10-12 lb free weights 3 times a week. 3 sets of 10-15 reps. having the extra muscle in my upper body helps boost metabolism and keep body fat down all over.

i also try to stretch out after work, but i often forget...i think it would help a lot if i did it regularly though. i've noticed that dancing has made my thighs thicker but the shape is better, so i guess it isn't entirely bad...

You're probably just seeing a small bulk of muscle, but if you truly do have 20 lbs of fat to lose, its just making you seem bulkier.

Keep doing your weights...add in Pilates/Yoga to help lengthen the musles. The more LMM you have, the more efficiently and quickly your body will burn off that excess fat.

Unless youre doing steroids or are a freak of nature you're muscles are not 'bulking up'. You could be experiencing a bit of growth but its the fat on top that gives the bulky appearance. If you're gaining weight you are eating a surplus of calories. The MAIN key to leaness is diet. Moderate cardio so you dont eat your muscles up. Heavy weights are best (5-8 rep range) to build some muscle which gives the body a nice shape as the fat comes off.

IVe never had a problem with my implants and I do lots of upper body weights. Implants do not necessarily have to be replaced every 10 years.

no, you're right, implants don't have to be replaced every 10 years, but I was saying that to illustrate that they are not designed to last forever and some leakage is expected after awhile.

i know it is uncommon, but some women do build bulky muscle mass quite easily. my mother taught at jane fonda's workout for years and came across several of these women.

Does that gross moving implant feeling ever go away? I sleep on my stomach too and keep massaging.

But most bodybuilders have their implants placed above the muscle which greatly reduces the stress they undergo with exercise. Also as you go up in implant size placing them under the muscle may not be a good option anymore as the muscle may eventually slip off the top of the implant giving you the orange in a sock look. My PS suggested going over the muscle when I got my expandables and I'm absolutely thrilled with the results.

As for gaining weight despite working out, keep in mind that muscle tissue is significanlty heavier than fat so all else being equal you are going to gain weight with weight training. Also weight training by itself is not going to make you lose significant amounts of fat. While the additional energy demand of the added muscle tissue may help to really lose body fat you do have to do cardio.
