    Default wisdom teeth

argh, i think mine are coming through. i've been getting really bad headaches for days and all my teeth keep aching.

the top ones are painful but i had some teeth removed up top when i had braces put on so there's room for them to come through, so hopefully i won't need to get them taken out. but the bottom ones... they're probably gonna have to go. i think one of the top ones is already 3/4's of the way out and half of the other one has broken thru the skin.

this is so fucking painful. the headaches are killing me

i just wanted to complain about it, heh.

    Take some Tylenol.

Wisdom teeth coming in hurt bad...and don't let those bottom ones push your teeth out of alignment. Get them removed as soon as you can.

Yeah, mine are in process of coming through. Denist said that there are increased complications after 25. That gives me till August to get mine out. My bottoms ones are starting to compact my other teeth, so I know the sooner the better.

I don't gt the point of them. Are they just like your pinkie toe, or appendix. Do we need them for anything??

I only have them on the top for some reason, my second one is coming in now... sideways. It's not giving me headaches or anything, I guess I either have good pain tolerance (cause having a baby didn't really hurt either) or I'm just waaay lucky about that sort of thing.

I think wisdom teeth served more purpose in like cave people days when they had protruding faces and it didn't cram the other teeth around and they're just still there for most people. =(

Blah. I had them out years ago. My overprotective mother had hid my pain meds and gone on some errands when I finally came to. I just cried, drooled, and bled, until she got her happy ass back home. She ALSO didn't pay attention when the doctor was explaining how to clean the holes (I was out) so they got infected. Lol, she abused me. Anyways, make sure you keep those holes CLEAN and enjoy the drugs.

Back in the day, there were no tootbrushes and people lost teeth. The wisdoms were handy replacements.

I had my uppers yanked out when I was 26, in May of 06. OUCH! I had to pay out of pocket $1200. Double OUCH! I never got my bottom ones in, thank GOD. My Dr. said that was genetic. Also because I have asthma I was put under with a "light local." I was given lidocaine...Wonderful stuff! The horzontal blinds in the window seemed to wrap around the whole room and the colors in the room seemed to melt together. I also had tracers. It was so cool, I was awake for the whole thing and felt nothing. Had I left my uppers in for another 3-4 months I would have to had sinus surgery to remove them...no joke! The root of my left wisdom tooth tore a small hole in my sinuses. So, If any of you have tooth problems go see the dentist. The pain and misery is not worth it. Plus you will make more money with nice teeth...see guys don't always look at your tits (HA HA)

Unless it's absolutely necessary, don't get your wisdom teeth pulled. Especially if they're impacted because I've seen patients that had their's out and they wound up with permanent numbness in their lip and tongue. It's rare but it can happen from nerve damage if the tooth is near the nerve and the oral surgeon accidentally hits the nerve. What might be happening is you might be clenching and grinding your teeth. If you're waking up with headaches and if your teeth are hurting, it's most likely clenching & grinding. Go to your dentist, have him/her check it out and see if that's what's happening. If so, a custom made night guard can be made that will take care of that. And, from what I learned in school, wisdom teeth coming in do not mess with your alignment of your teeth. That's a myth, they don't push on the teeth to make them crooked in the front, that happens from chewing and from what's called "mesial drift", your teeth just drift forward as you age because your jaw slightly grows as you get older. If you had braces, then they're more likely to become crooked again because your teeth have a "memory" that they remember where they came in originally and just because the braces forced them somewhere else, they'll want to go back to where they grew in. That's why it's best to have a retainer that you wear at night for the rest of your life and some people have permanent retainers put in to prevent the teeth from shifting. I have a removable retainer that I'll pop in about once a month just to keep my teeth in check. Definitely go to your dentist to see if you're grinding your teeth, that's what it sounds like to me.

You shouldn't be swollen, if the wisdom has already errupted or come in then there shouldn't be any swelling. You should have it out if it has a large cavity in it, I'm just a firm believer that it's not completely necessary to remove wisdom teeth that are stuck deep into the bone, why go digging around in your jaw if you're not having problems. Anyway, you should be fine, they'll numb you up, pop it right out, you won't feel a thing. If there's any concern for swelling, just ice your cheek that day and then you should be fine. The dentist who removes your tooth will give you post op instructions.

It's nice that we have another dental person on here now!

As far as how swollen you will be from your wisdom teeth... the most important thing is that you DO get them taken out, because if you do not they can cause WAY more problems later down the road. As far as swelling goes... dependent on how far in they are will depend a lot on how swollen you will be, if they are impacted (meaning the root is starting to grow in), you will more likley have a lot of swelling, if they aren't the swelling is more likely to be minimal. A lot can also depend on how rough the doctor is, like with any surgery, the more careful the doctor is, the less you will swell. Now this is not always true because even the best doctors have patients with a lot of swelling. To minimize swelling make sure to use lots of ice... that will help a lot! I tell patients to use a bag of frozen peas in 15 minute increments. And make sure you follow the instructions as far as no smoking, no using a straw and doing your salt water rinses to prevent dry sockets.
All in all, it depends on you. But the longer you wait the worse it will be.
    Best of luck!

Mine are with my mother... in a wee envelope she keeps in her jewellry box lol

Had them out when I was 10.. drilled down n got them out, figured they would only cause problems and since was already having my last 4 baby teeth out thought they may as well get them out whilst I was knocked out. .. woke up to them in a jar! ewww.. they are huuugeee!

So so glad.. they seem to be nothing but hassle

Hope the pain is a bit better now hun!
