Default the awesome-ness of being off of BC

I have now offically been off of birthcontrol for 3 weeks and counting. I've lost 8 lbs that I swore before I would never shed.

I have lost all my appetite..not sure if that is normal or not. I seriously never get that hungry and when I do I can't finish my meal. Its a nice change but still. sorta odd.
I dont fight with my boyfriend as much as I use to or at least in long ass durations over NOTHING.

And im not as tired, the insomnia I did have isn't as prevelent now either. I dont require sleep meds everynight.

Im starting to think that all these panic attacks, weird weight gains...horrible depressive states and insomnia were hormone related.

which sucks because that means i've been medicating myself for years for shit i didnt really have

ugh. just had to vent. and rave since its sorta nice to have a leveled life again

I had bad experiances with Birth control as well. I was on and off of Depo for years (the off periods were short and probably not long enough to get everything out of my system). I felt TONS better after getting off and will never mess with my body like that again.

I'm so glad your feeling better Tart!

Sounds great. I'd like to get off hormonal birth control, but I'm allergic to latex, can't hold an IUD, and don't trust spermicides. Plus, when I tried to go off the pill once, I got bloated and cramped horribly and had these huge, miserable, tsunami periods that lasted forever. So fuck it, I'll stay on the pill another 12 years if I have to.

I'm off b/c for the first time since I was 14 (not counting my bout with Depo) and I can't say I've lost anything, or feel any different. I hope I do though...I really had my fingers crossed that I could shed a few pounds as a result.

Tart I have alot of your same symptoms, anxiety, insomnia, bouts of depression. I've heard so many women say that bc has affected them this way. I wish I could go off as well but I sooo don't want to get knocked up! You are lucky!

Man, last time I was on the pill I got super depressed. I was speed driving home one day crying like a maniac and didnt give a shit if I killed myself while driving. Never again will I go it, just by that weird experience. I mean i've gotten depression like everyone else, but not like that. I never had that problem before, or had suicidal thoughts. Total personality change and a half.

I can't handle any kind of bc pill. F that.

I know how you feel, I was on the pill for for five years and got off it a few months ago and it's great. I am horney again. Oh, what is that down there, oh, I actually have a vagina, wow. I lost about 5 lbs. when I got off it plus it helped my depression. But now my face is breaking out, go figure.

Has anyone who has stopped birth controll noticed their hair thinning? I wanted to go off of mine, but I'm afraid my hair will become really thin. I've heard since bc bassically makes your body think it's pregnant, your hair is thicker when your on it like it gets thicker when you are pregnant, but will have significant fallout when you go off. The woman in my family have very very thin hair but so far I've managed to hold on to mine, and I've always wondered if this was why.

but, I havn't been horny in sooo long I feel like it might be time for a break- I've been on it

Oh, and the women in my family have PCOS, and I can't be tested as long as I'm on birth controll, because it controlls the problem. I don't know if I have it for sure, but as long as I'm on bc its not able to cause any harm. My mom, sister and cousin have it.

For those of you who don't know what PCOS is, it's poly cystic ovarian syndrome. It can make a womans thyroid go out of wack, gain an incredible amount of weight, or become stick thin, have serious male pattern baldness, like really bald on top, become diabetic, have crazy depressive and violent mood swings, and possibly become infertile, not to mention have horrible acne, and cysts not only grow on your ovaries, but other places too. Oh, and become really hairy every where else, like thick lower back and arm hair, and thick chin and upper lip hair.

My sister has had to have cysts removed from her feet, the end of her tailbone, her upper back, and wrist. -She has an extream case though.

lol agh sorry to hear that papillon.

Its a huge risk for me to go off of the pill. I already have 2 children so obviously the pipes are working. I dont want anymore. However, Im taking ovulation tests...doing the sponge and just crossing fingers. no more "going" inside of me that's for sure.

But I couldnt continue the fights ..the outragous emotion upswings I was having either

Obviously you can't have your "tubes tied" or don't want to? The ONLY reason I am on BC is because due to how I am fertile and single with no dependants I am not eligible for the surgery as such (doctors would not be forthcoming with referrals they would tell me to wait).

I wish I didn't have to be on BC however I do as I really really really do not want children. Plus it helps that I do not have my period so as I can go about my work easily without any worry.

I got my tubes ties when I was 27 and am sooooo glad I did it. I had horrible symptoms on BC, too.

My ob/gyn wouldn't help me in getting sterilized, so I had to look else where, as I have no children. But I did find a doctor at a university hospital that also happened to be a feminist lesbian.

GCG, keep looking for the right doctor. You may have to pay for the procedure, but it shouldn't be that much money. I was down for about 2 days, then returned to work as a cocktail waitress. I would recommend waiting a couple of weeks before returning to stage dancing, but doing lap dances in a week should be just fine.

You may want to ask about non-hormonal bc instead of going completely off. After all, you still have to prevent pregnancy. I'm going to look into this myself at my next appt. I'm interested in what your doc suggests.
