Yes we should. Just because a handful of "white" people have also been terrorists doesn't discount the fact that overwhelming majority of people who perpetrate terrorists acts and want to do so in the US are middle eastern males 18-45.

We already racially profile for other crimes. When a serial killer in the US starts striking, the police automatically assume it's a white suburban male 25-50. Where's the hue and cry over that?

And racial profiling is not the only tool that is being called for, it's one of many that can help us.

So...we can take a careful look at the swarthy guy named Ahmed passing through security, or we can randomly search every 5th airline passenger, including 85 year old grannies from Peoria. Which is more likely to help stop terrorists?

    Agreed.
The amount of times i've been marked for the extra security check in US airports is ridiculous

Typical effeminate sneering voice with ominous pathetic electronic music saying "you did it too! you did it too!"

What is not mentioned through all this anti-white diatribe by a likely communist is the state sponsership of terrorism, the religious/islamic government idealism behind the terrorism, the massive amount of money behind the terrorism, the sophisticated and military training afforded the terrorists, that many are actual combat veterans from different terrorist wars around the world, have actually run countries such as the Taliban and now Somalia, are educated - the list could go on...

This guy picks out like six hoodlums frustrated enough with their life to lash out and jacks their status up to par with terrorists.

(McVeigh/Nichols certainly are in that realm though as it was political, military training, and they had money that was never really researched I believe. I also believe there would be a lot less sympathy if a day care wasn't blown up in the building but simply a bunch of IRS workers and FBI agents. Who is using human shields now! (half smirk) Anyhow, these guys were at war with the US.)

What this guy tries to do is equalize anyone who uses a bomb as having the same motives, training, mindset, and goals as the terrorists of the middle east do. This is like trying to compare apples to olives. And they say the repugnicans try to simplify everything.

If statistically there are more muslim terrorists of middle eastern descent, then the numbers work that racial profiling will pick up most of the threats. It's mathematics and it is damn hard to refute unless one innumerates an entire population like the pathetic education system in the US is trying it's best to do.

That said, I say look to El Al for some ideas - they are more behavioral profiling and can depend on the very strict identification system (ie, they don't hand out drivers licenses to illegal aliens) to background check people.

I think El Al has a good system in place even though it is a very strict security check . They have many different deterents besides the typical screening techniques . The big problem here in the US people will bitch about the lines and having to wait - then factor in loss of revenue because the flights are being delayed . It will all come down to how big business wants it done . How many more times is the gov going to bail out the airlines ? Lets also put in these type of checks at the borders .

Lol. I was amused by it. But it is true that there are plenty of Timothy McVeighs, Ted Kaczynskis, Benjamin Nathaniel Smiths and Eric Rudolphs out there. It's not just a "handful of people" and they are right here in the USA.

It's not just right wing groups though. There are plenty of Eco-terrorist organizations out there that have also got to be watched. These groups are expected to become more violent in the coming decades. They need to be watched like a hawk too.

And racial profiling doesn't always work. In the D.C. sniper shootings everyone assumed that the assailant had to be a white male. I believe that got in the way of the investigation.

As for thinking that only swarthy men with beards and a turban are going to be the ones carrying bombs, I think that's kind of silly. Terrorists, though they may indeed be crazy, are not stupid. The hijackers of Sept. 11th could be looked at as Arab just as much as they could be Puerto Rican, Barbadian, Brazilian, Indian, Greek, Italian, Jewish, Slovenian, mixed race of some sort, the list goes on. I also think it's funny how many "whites" think that so called "white racial features" are somehow only regulated to them. (Characteristics like light hair, light eyes, straight noses, fair skin, etc) there are plenty of Arabic people with these characteristics. I am sure that terrorist organizations will start using more of the "white" looking Arabs as terrorists. There are also many more women being recruited. There are also many more people of European ethnicity, particularly European women, that are converting to Islam (does anyone remember the young blue eyed, red hair Dutch woman who was arrested for wanting to be a suicide bomber?) I believe you will see a lot more of that in the future. There are also plenty of non-Arab muslim radicals. Does anyone remember the Bali bombers? They were not Arab.

    This is the scary thing.

Like with OBL slipping away on very nigh the second presidential administration - it's like the police standing at the door to your home demanding to search you and listen to you while the criminals run the streets.
