    Default New Movie: Jesus Camp

There's a new movie coming out that was produced by the christian right called "Jesus Camp".

It's about a camp in North Dakota where kids learn to "be saved" when they're 5, pray to a cardboard cutout of GW, and are taught to "take up their swords" for Jesus' causes.

Bill Maher has a pretty good segment on it:

I thought it was funny that the Fox News gal on the panel thought Christians should be willing to be beheaded before denouncing their faith, and how she likened not believing that Christ as your savior to starving to death.

I like the conclusion drawn by at the end of the segment.

It's about those moments which leave you breathless."

Yeah, the trailer is rather disturbing.
Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the costs become prohibitive.

When I saw the commercial for it, my first instinct was that it was a brainwashing camp. Then I saw the name. "Jesus Camp" makes me think concentration camp. Yeesh.

Very disturbing. I actually know too many people who are very close to that in real life. My bf was raised in a christian cult where there was no television, no newspapers, no books except for what was approved by the church leaders. The girls all wore modest clothing, with skirts down to their ankles, no make-up allowed, all hair pulled back into a ponytail. At church they spoke in tongues, and had their own flavor of "witchhunting" in which the leader would pretend to be privy to some wrongdoing by a young member. The kids were so eager to be right with god that they would tattle on any and every action that could possible be considered a sin. This wasn't camp it was daily life! What a hostile and shitty environment to grow up in.
Bf never fit in because he was the problem child who asked too many questions. He left the church as a teen. Now he's with me, a liberal-feminist-atheist-stripper--AHH his parents worst nightmare!
Point is, all these kids from this cult, the movie, and the other poor brainwashed masses...not a damn one of them understands the very basics evolution and therefore don't "believe" in it, they think global warming is a myth, that abortion kills a baby and they vote accordingly! To me, this is a clear danger to our country and the world.

Pray to a cardboard cut out of GW??? Sounds like a rightwing terrorist training camp.
