This page is very good too. (-:

    THE OCCURANCE OF CANDIDA ALBICANS

Candida albicans is a type of parasitic yeast like fungus that inhabits the intestines, genital tract, mouth, esophagus and throat. Certain conditions can cause it to multiply, weakening the immune system and causing an infection known as candidiasis, yeast infection, monilia and thrush. The fungus can travel through the bloodstream to many parts of the body, the most common being the mouth, ears, nose, gastrointestinal tract, and vagina. It is one of the most debilitating immune deficiency and nutritional disorders of our time.<<

And a good book to get for a diet that will starve off the candida is The Body Ecology Diet.

BTW, 80% of the HEALTHY population carries Candida Albicans on their mucous tissue. This only becomes a problem if candida grows out of proportion which typically requires a deficient or at least temporarily weakened immune system to occur. And those wild claims of on third of the population suffering from candida related illnesses is another one of those money making stories brought to you by the same people who brought you colonics.

Before you all self-diagnose yourselves with various yeast-related illnesses and go on a placebo diet you may want to check this out:

^ Yes, candida is found in the body naturally. However, with the "average" diet these days, sugars, carbs, etc, etc, etc make the candida OVER GROW. That means that by changing up your diet to limit sugars/carbs/etc, you can starve off the candida (it will never totally go away, but it won't be running rampant).

All of the "symptoms" that I had were "thyroid" related...and my (ex) doc pulled blood for a thyroid test FOUR TIMES and nothing was wrong...but he still wanted to put me on thyroid meds to see if it would "cure" the problem.

I changed my diet...and whaddya know? The symptoms are going away and I didn't have to put myself on expensive, body destroying meds.

And, the claims that not very many people suffer from bad eating and its all probably medical issues claims are brought to you by the same people who make shit-loads of money off of people who are foolish enough to believe that the pharmaceuticals have their best interests at heart. And that flooding their bodies with toxic chemicals is the answer...while emptying their pocket book.

    Really...if you don't feel good...change your diet.

Eating a reasonable diet is of course a pre-condition to maintining a strong immune system and good overall health. I absolutely agree with that. That does not require going on an extreme diet though. But maybe my perspective is a bit skewed having worked in Europe for the past few years. The average people on the street around here certainly to me look quite a bit healthier than their counterparts in the US, which may be related to the fact that there's only a small fraction of the number of fast food plaxes found in a typical US city around here.

^ Extreme diet? That's funny. It's extreme in the fact that its not store bought, nutritionally destroyed food. Its extreme in the fact that its all "homemade". Most European countries still make the vast majority of their foods from scratch...whereas in the US, we buy our complete meals in the freezer section. Its also quite telling that the US spends more money than any other country on miracle cure pills, etc. While my new way of eating may be more expensive (eating wholly organic, farm raised/bought fruits/veggies/meat) my family will be healthier and the money spent on "getting healthy" will be less.

VG, I just said basically the same thing in the other thread, lol! It's absurd to think that we need to eat processed foods or sugar.

If anyone were to truly LOOK at the diet instead of jumping on it, you would notice that we are eating lean protein, fresh veggies , whole grains and healthy fats. You can't tell me that you need dairy because I get tons of calcium from my greens without the stomach upset. And nobody has to eat fruit. You get the same nutrients from veggies with out the blood sugar spike.

Good luck Aussie. Hope this clears up your problems.

    (a) What exactly is your problem with this? (b) One third of the population is not a wild claim, it's quite a conservative estimate compared to some figures. And (c) money making stories? Ha

Sorry, I just cant be bothered with this. My opinion - anyone who wants to believe the sort of opinions put forward by Qwackwatch is welcome to. I'd rather read up on as many sources of info as I see fit. Talk to others who have tried various methods and so on. - Try a few things for myself and see what works and what doesnt. Certainly no-one is getting rich off of my elimination diet In comparison it's in the pharmaceuticals best interest and all the doctors on Quackwatch to keep people sick so they are kept in jobs. That might sound a tad extreme, but is it really? Do you really think those people give a flying fuck about me personally?
