    Cin, I don't think it would harm you...but you would have to really listen to your body and cease the cleanse when you feel you needed to. I'll dig out my book and see if it mentions anything about anemia (it might, but its been a while since I've read it).

    I'll get back to you on that.

    I was anemic when I was vegetarian. Even though I started eating poultry and some steak, I'm still very low iron. I take iron suppliments when I remember.

    I start the master cleanse diet today and will try to do it for 7 - 10 days. I found a lot of information on the web where you can purchase the kit or just the maple syrup and uniodized salt because I had a hard time finding this.

    No prob lady. I just saw that I had committed myself to doing this starting the end of oct... yeah, like that happened.

    My body got cleaned out these last few days cause I haven't been able to eat anything, or rather, keep anything down. It's a perfect time for me to start! My body hasn't digested food since monday... just joking. I know you need to be healthy before starting anything like this with your body.

    I'm still interested in doing this, but it's so hard when part of my job requirements are going to two or three lunch meetings a week along with on or two din meetings a week. It'd be too rude for me to sit with clients at a fancy restaurant and sip a home made 'drink...'

    I tried this, and I had a hard time staying away from foods I liked. After a couple of days you get used to not eating, and you should not feel hungry if you follow the directions. I lost about 4 pounds after 3 days. That should have kept me going, but I am an emotional eater (who isnt) and I love food too much. It also is not helpful if you are the slave, I mean chef of the kitchen.

    Well I started 1/4/07 however I've been eating food every day so it doesn't really count but I hope my body is still being cleanse. I'll try at another time and post my results. I have my period now and really have to eat chocolate.

    Helpful tips and what to expect on the fast. I do have a light meal each day.

    Quick General Tips

    1. Get the book(s). "The Master Cleanse" by Stanley Burroughs and/or "Lose weight, have more energy and be happier in ten days " by Peter Glickman. Available at the Master Cleanse / Raw Food Site web store. All the who, what, when, where, why and how is answered in those books. The number one reason people do not do the cleanse correctly is that they get incorrect information from a friend or the internet or an article. Don't do yourself any harm, make sure you have all the information necessary before you start.
    -- as long as you have one of the books you're okay --

    2. The first 3 or 4 days are the hardest. Drink as much lemonade and Maple syrup as you need. Even if you want to lose weight, don't worry about decreasing your Maple Syrup just yet. 1. you will lose weight even if you don't decrease it and 2. in the beginning you tend to feel hungrier, so keeping your body happy will make those days much better.

    3. The only thing you can eat for the next ten or more days is Lemons, Limes, cayenne pepper, grade B dark maple syrup, and water. (Preferably organic and spring for the water) You can have any laxative tea, peppermint tea and uniodized coarse sea salt. Nothing else. No gum. No painkillers. No mints. No broth nothing. (If you are on prescription drugs, you can continue taking them. Birthcontrol is ok to take. Just make sure that you do not take them anytime around the SWF)


    4. Detoxing is different for everybody. Headaches are common. Rashes. Bosy odour. Crankiness. Severe cravings. Congestion. Tiredness. Muscle pain. Miscellaneous pains. All these things usually pass in a day or two. Lay in bed and take naps if you need to. Listen to your body.
    [Headaches are usually from caffeine withdrawal, nausea and vomiting are usually from not drinking enough water/lemonade. Cramping from laxative tea can usually be eliminated by just drinking some water or lemonade. Peter ]

    5. Drink your SWF warm with a straw. You don't have to chug it if you don't want to. You can separate it in glasses and drink it that way. Or you can lick a lemon in between. Allow yourself up to 2 hours of time close to a bathroom after you drink it. The feeling to go will be urgent. Also, invest in babywipes.
    Oh and the SWF may make you feel bloated. Try alternating every other day better the SWF and the lax tea in the morning (not both). If the SWF doesn't work, next time try adding a little more or a little less salt until you find something that hits.

    6. Drink between 6 to 12 glasses of lemonade a day. You can adjust the maple syrup to your needs. It's better to make each glass fresh but if you have to make it bulk, mix the lemons, water and syrup first then add the cayenne to each seperate glass you drink. the cayenne gets hotter over time.

    7. Add the cayenne to taste. If you don't like alot of spicy then you can just put in a pinch. Start small and work up. Cayenne helps you feel warm as well as helps with the breaking up of congestion/ mucus and helps your heart. Some people take a shot of cayenne in water and wash it down with lemonade. No cayenne capsules are allowed.

    8. Your BMs will mostly be liquid if you do the swf. with the tea it's a little more solid. but that's all normal.

    9. You can exercise while on the cleanse, just keep lemonade handy. Lift weights cautiously.

    10. Your tongue will get white and fuzzy. It should clear up or at least get better over time. Some say tongue brushing and scraping really helps.

    11. Take this time out to pamper yourself. soak in the tub (with epsom salt if you have). Go get a massage. Sleep late.

    12. P&B shakes are not recommended. Neither Stanley Burroughs nor Peter recommend them.
    [I've seen hundreds and hundreds of people get great results from the Master Cleanse by following Burroughs' exact instructions. If you alter it, who knows what the results will be. A large part of the benefits from the Master Cleanse come from the fact that it is a juice fast and you are giving your body a rest from digesting solid "stuff." Bentonite clay and psyillium husks are solid stuff. Don't combine them with the Master Cleanse. Because they absorb and mechanically push waste out, they are great for people who can't do the Master Cleanse. Stick with Burroughs' instructions. Do not add anything else. Even the probiotics I recommend are for after the cleanse. Peter ]

    "Q. Can you combine the Intestinal Cleanse with the Lemonade Diet?
    A. After many experiments, we have found it is not wise to combine the Lemonade Diet and the Intestinal Cleanse. The psyllium needs bulk to keep foods moving down the tract. The Lemonade Diet requires that no solid foods be eaten. The two cleanses are in conflict because one relies on eating meals to properly cleanse; the other requires that only liquids be consumed." ---Taken from http://www.cleansingorsurgery.com/faq.htm (a website that talks about different cleanses and most importantly tells why you should do the P & B shakes (psyllium and bentonite) along with the MC. the site also has info on liver flushes)

    13. Drink spring water. Some prefer distilled. As long as it's not tap water or carbonated water

    14. Follow the rules to break the fast properly. It will help you avoid much discomfort and pain. Also, don't cheat. One french fry could be detrimental.

    15. Ten days is the minimum. Allow 3 days for breaking the fast. You can do more than ten days if you'd like.

    16. Fresh squeezed lemons and limes only. No premade lemon or lime juice, even if it is organic.

    17. It may take a day or two when you start before you have your first BM. The same when you break and go back to regular food, it may take a while to get stuff build back up and coming out.

    18. You can have sex, go to work, play with the kids, cook for your family and what not while on the cleanse. Just keep your lemonade handy and rest when you need to.

    19. You will be exceptionally cold while doing this cleanse. Bundle up, spend time in the sunshine and drink tea to help.

    20. You can do the SWF or the lax tea in the a.m. It all depends on your tastes and preferences. You can switch it up every other day if you like.

    21. Be very careful after doing the SWF. A sneeze, cough or laugh could cause an "accident". Pantyliners are Godsent (for women).

    22. If you cheat, don't fret. Figure out why you cheated and how to avoid making that mistake again and then start back over the next day from day one.

    Because all forms of fasting are >>cleanses<< the body will do what it needs to do the most first. Often it will not be weight loss and there will be periods where you might not loose any weight. So do yourselves a favor and stop looking at the numbers and press on knowing that you are doing yourselves a world of good and that you are attacking the "root causes" of obesity. being overweight is not a thing in and of itself. It is a "health issue"

    ^ This is very true. It can be used to ease yourself from one form of eating into another (after day 3 or 4 you lose your cravings). So, doing the cleanse to get the toxins out of your body for 7-10 days (or a little longer if you please) is a great way to detoxify and then slowly start eating the foods that you need instead of eating the foods that you want.

    It's how I always helped myself get back to my "good eating" when I've been eating bad for a while.

    Two of my coworkers were on it last week. I saw them this morning, and by Saturday, both of them had broken down. One of them was throwing up so bad he felt like he was dying. He ate 5 fajitas the night of recovery. Its a dangerous, uncessary crash diet. The body cleans itself out. 2 weeks is starvation. I don't know how you ladies do it......

    I just started this cleanse today after researching it all weekend.
    im using it to kill my cravings for bad carbohydrates before i start the south beach diet.
    i eat healthy now, and have been going to the gym 4 days a week for the last month but the weight just isnt coming off as fast as id like. i figured that this cleanse followed by more dieting was safer than adding some sort of stimulant diet pill to my vitamin regiment, and i think my liver, kidneys, and colon will appreciate it too.

    Sounds more like the flu to me.

    But, as with everything, this could have also been a massive "withdrawl" for him. Some people have it more violently than others.

    I've never heard of anyone (that I know) have this kind of reaction to this. It's not a crash diet. It's a cleanse...the body cleanses itself...but after enough toxification, the ability of the organs to work to their full potential decreases. Doing these cleanses once or twice a year never hurt anyone.

    Again, this is NOT a crash diet. It's not a diet. It is a cleanse.

    I have done this cleanse but totally different from all the ways above.

    In addition to the "cleanse drink" I have taken whey shakes and had servings of steamed brown rice. I've needed to do this as my gym routines are HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and I do a minimum of 30 minutes cardio.

    To do the cleanse as prescribed would have put me in the hospital.

    I asked one of my trainers how I could both do the cleanse and maintain my gym routines and that was his suggesstion.

    Have the whey and rice in the morning with my drink, whey after workout, rice and whey before workout.

    In short 3 servings of whey/rice per day so long as I am training that way I can still have the carb energy needed for workouts and the whey so I do not suffer muscle mass loss during the process. It also eases the hunger pang issue.

    Granted this might not be what the cleanse originally was intended but lifestyle, endocrine levels, thyroid, diabetic, hypoglycemic, and other issues must be considered before entering any manner of cleanse.

    Conventional doctors may not help you in taking your health in a holistic way so search out a homeopathic or Naturopathic doctor. They can also guide you as to whether or not you need to suppliment any cleanse according to your specific body chemistry signature.

    any fast will slow down your metabolism... when you come off it, you will find it easier to gain weight... so you must increase your calories gradually!!!

    i was just reading the master cleanse forums and someone had this idea for post-cleanse dieting and i was wondering what any of you women who are more knowledgable about weight loss and nutrition thought about it...



    Scenario 1
    Drink lemonade for breakfast, lunch and have a small calorie counted dinner or

    Scenario 2
    Eat sensible one day and the next day lemonade only and then alternating or

    Scenario 3
    Lemonade during the week and eat on weekends

    All of these include using a laxative at night.

    Well I tried to do it for the past 3 days but I eat food as well so it's a mild cleanse however I got really sick ( cold ) and went to the doctor and he prescribed antibiotic which I'm taking because I can't afford to take off from work or be sick for that matter, however it was my body releasing all the toxins as it said in the book by Mr Burroughs so it's a natural process. Perhaps I'll try it at another time when the weather is warm.

    Well I don't think it's good for your metabolism to not eat for 11 days or more, I don't care what the book says. A fast is for 3 days and after 3 days the body starts to eat itself and that's why you loose 2 pounds per day. When Beyonce did the MC she report that she had vegetables each day, she also said she lost 20 lbs but gain it right back when she started to eat again, she did it for her role in the film Dream Girls. However since it was design to detox and you're trying to loose weight I think you can do it while eating food but keep it light. Don't have any meat or coffee, do eat a lot of raw food such as fruits and salads, protein shake without milk and take a vitamin supplement and skip the salt water flush but do the laxative tea at night and have 1200 calories per day. When we eat food often we speed up our metabolism and we burn fat even when we sleep however when you don't eat your body thinks it's going into starvation and send message to your brain and then it starts to store up fat that's why the MC require you to take a laxative twice per day so you don't store anything and flush out the waste and toxins however it will fuck up your metabolism and when you return to normal eating even if it's healty you will still gain weight. The best way to loose weight and keep it of permanently is to eat small portions 4 - 6 times per day and exercise, play sports, have vigorous sex, etc... When your boby is use to getting food several times per day it will not store it and use it up for energy and despose what it doesn't need, however if you eat fattening food and high calories and non nutrious that your body can't use as energy then it will store it as fat which leads to health problems. You have to eat smart and don't have empty calories. After you loose all the weight you want to then switch to 1500 - 1800 calories per day to maintain your figure and suppleness of your skin and continue to exercise and drink lots of water and eat lots of fiber so you have at least one bowel movement each day without taking laxative or getting a pouch ( stomach ). It's best to loose 2 lbs per week than 2 lbs per day, you didn't gain weight over night so it will take time to loose it so you don't develop any health problems. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

    I honestly have to say you must purchase the book. Read the original authors viewpoints and why he made the diet. It doesn't cost more than 7 dollars and it is kinda hard to find. Not to mention a very quick read. Most of the time you have to order though I found mine in Tensing Momo in the Pike Place market in Seattle. I do believe they have a website if you can't find it where you are. I have done the detox myself and love it. I have found no negative aspects or consequences to it yet and have done it twice.
