Default How long until you needed a break?

I've just been wondering, how often (if at all), do you girls take breaks?

I've now been dancing for about 9 or 10 weeks straight, usually no less than 2 nights a week, and I'm starting to feel really burnt out. I'm incredibly depressed about the situation, and wishing I wasn't there while I'm working.

I had originally planned to take 4 weeks off in about 3 weeks because I have exams coming up, but I feel like I need to take it now, but then there's no way I can go back before hand, so it'll be 7 weeks off.

Should I take this break now? Or should I just keep going until my time planned...

I don't know what to do. I can get by without it. But only just, and I'm scared the club will be upset with me for taking so much time off.

I took at least a week off every three months when I was dancing full time.

Mia, if you need a break now, then take it now. You're not doing yourself anygood being somewhere that you dont want to be. If you take a break, take like a week off. Then when it's time for you to take your longer break for school do that.

A good rule of thumb is for every three weeks of dancing 3-4 nights per week you take a week off... if you have been smart with your money you will be able to afford to do so... otherwise take 2 decent vacations per year.

Sometimes just a change of scenery (dancing in a different state/club) works wonders.

wow, I can't imagine taking off one week after only 3 weeks. Whose rule of thumb is that? Seems excessive to me and I work 6 nights per week.

I take 1-2 weeks off every quarter and I make sure I really vacation. Not just sit around the house and do housework, but get out to some place fun.

I've been doing this for years without burnout.

Listen to your body. When it's getting overwhelmed, it will tell you. It's best to take enough time off to heal and collect yourself than to keep pushing and hurt yourself. Mentally OR physically.

Everyone's burnout level is going to be different. If you need time off, take it. You're the boss!

Emily youre a stripperbot! hehehe I wish I had that kind of motivation. Yes, if you feel burnout take a week off or even 4-5 days off if you can spare it right now. I like to go to where the wild ones are...jk.. I go to the woods to clear my head.

You take a break when you need it. Not when you're feeling lazy, but when you need it.

Personally, I can't work 5-6 nights per week anymore. It wears me out too much. I work my ass off at work. I can work like 3 nights per week pretty much forever, and the money I'll make in those 3 nights is plenty. Once in a while though, I just want a break and so I'll take it. But for years, I could pretty much work 5 nights per week all year long - only took time off for holidays and such.

I make about as much money now in 3 nights as I used to in 5 though

I usually do one week on at 5 days, one week off. And every 3 months I work the complete month, and then take 2 weeks off.

Well I'm working 2 nights minimum and I go to uni 4 days a week, all 9am starts, sometimes 6pm finishes. I've just found that lately I'm starting to really dread having to go into work, and I'm having hell trying to eat well anymore (which is bizarre because I don't even LIKE junk food, but for some reason I can't stop eating it) and I'm struggling to make myself go to the gym - even though I used to go everyday before I started dancing out of choice because I just loved going so much. I guess I'm hoping this all due to a burn out and that if I take time off and ease off on the stress that things will go back to normal...

Just listen to your own body. I'm a 4 days a week with 6 +months till a break kinda dancer though as i'm getting older i'm getting tired quicker. I found when i was just doing shows that i could work 5 days a week and not break for a year+.

I worked for almost 3 yrs straight, with only 1wk off. I needed one way before then, but money in my area isn't really enough that I ever felt I could. and I was working 3 nights a week, sometimes more. I advise taking time off as soon as you start feeling burnt. If you don't your money making ability will go down and you'll just feel worse.

Take off this week. Go back for two, and then do your exams. Taking this one week off will give you the wearwithall (is that one word or three??) to go back for the two weeks before your longer break.

For me it depends on the club. Low drama, low contact, low hustle, I can go for weeks working 6 nights w/o much burn out. If any one of those things changes, then I mentally burn out super fast.

I usually work 2 or 3 weeks and then take a week off, but I work anywhere from 8 to 12 hour shifts depending where I am booked for the week. If I worked 4, 5, or 6 hour shifts, I wouldn't get burned out so quickly and I could go much longer without needing to take a break.

oh, if I was doing 8-12 shifts I'd totally burn out.

I do 4-5 hour shifts. I think that's part of it. Working the best hours and having all day to myself to relax.

^^^Yeah, I would love to work 4-5 hours. After about 6 hours, I feel myself dragging and I feel like I don't put forth as much effort. Most clubs in WI have one long shift and all girls work opening until closing. What they should do is split up the shifts into a day shift and night shift, but a lot of managers and owners are too stupid to do that.

    I agree with you 100%..

If you need to take a break take it now (if only for a week) Then go back if needed! I took 2 months off and just started back 2 weeks ago! I needed to find myself again, if you know what I mean! Sometimes you have to listen to what your body is trying to tell you!

I always find that if I take some time off when I'm feeling burned out, I make more money when I go back to work. Guys have radar if you are just muddling through. My first day back to work after some time off, I usually bank! Maybe it's because I don't have to fake wanting to be there.

I'm a newbie dancer -- I've danced in a one piece outfit around a club once (without taking it off or getting on stage), and I've danced one night shift and one day shift in another club nude on stage and lap dance area -- but I can tell you that for me, my last dance experience and the bad taste it left in my mouth (I made no $ during that shift, the bartender was horrible, and I left with all kinds of bruises from practicing on the pole) is what I remember when I reminisce about dancing now. So, before you take a vacation, make sure you have an awesome $ making night. If you have to dance at another club the day/night before your vacation, do it. This will make it easier to come back to for you! Good luck, girlie and I hope you feel better!
