    Default Nuva Ring users.

    Anyone on the Nuvo ring?

Have you ever tried keeping it in an extra week and then inserting a new ring (similiar to skipping your period while on the pill)

I'm supposed to take mine out next week but I wanna skip it because I'm new and its hard enough to stay on my shoes right now never mind worry about a tampon string popping out.

I've tried to skip periods while on pills and on the Nuvaring. A lot of women love that trick, but my body won't fall for it. If I keep taking hormones for more than 5-6 weeks, my body will breakthrough bleed until I let myself menstruate. It's a huge pain, and I'd rather bleed for one week than all month.

Also, because I'm a poor college student with no insurance, I leave my ring in for an extra week (4 weeks total), take it out, and let myself menstruate. The manual says that it's ok.

Skipping periods isn't totally bad, but listen to your body if it won't allow it. Also, keep in mind that menstruation cleans out your vagina. Blood is full of macrophages that kill bacteria and sweep out all sorts of stuff that would otherwise incubate in the warm, moist vagina.

I'm jsut like Krazyjane, my body wont let me skip a period. I tried because we had this little party coming up one weekend and I didn't want to miss out on any fun. So I kept on with the hormones...yah, not only did I have breakthrough bleeding, but my period sucked! I was a hormonal wreck.
Give it a shot, if your body can handle it, great! If not, at least now you know! But keep a tampon handy just in case!

    Good Luck!

^^ My friend keeps it in for 4 weeks too. I will try to find out, but also talk to your doc about it, or call Planned Parenthood and ask one of the nurse practitioners.

Yea now that I recall I did breakthrough bleed once... Ehh not good.

I think I will leave my ring in an extra week and then have my period so I have some time to ease the crazyness at work before ALSO having my period.

    Thanks.

Yeah, I tried to skip with the ring and it doesn't work for me. I also breakthrough bleed until I get off the hormones and menstruate.

    I love the ring though.

From what I've read, 4 weeks seem to be the max, but that's 25% less periods for you over a course of a year...

One more thing: they recommend that you put in your first ring ever during your period, but I'd suggest waiting till after if you're prone to breakthrough bleeding. Yeah, you won't have immediate contraceptive protection like you would if you started the ring in your first few days of menstruating, but at least you won't bleed for your first month. I bled the first month, but never had a problem after that until I tried the period-skipping trick.

I only breakthrough bleed if I try to skip a period. It just doesn't work for me.

The only way I can skip a period on nuva ring is to take it out after 3 weeks like you're supposed to, and put a new one in. Every time I've tried to keep it in for 4 weeks, I start my period.
