Short question.
How much do you need to work on a trip for it to be a tax write off? One night? The entire time? Etc?

just book a photoshoot on the days you dont want to work

under US tax law every day you attempt to write off must be accompanied by an income producing activity.

How about australian tax law? The same? Darn.

How about the flight and accomodations? Do you have to work the same day you fly in order to write off the ticket? And is the hotel covered on your off days?

A business travel expense is a travel expense incurred in producing assessable income (other than salary and wages), which involves traveling away from home for at least 1 night.

Lilith, there is a sticky at the top of this board. I think this has already been answered in that sticky - please have a look see. Otherwise the short answer is the whole trip. I claim my whole trips ... it doesn't matter you aren't working every day as long as the whole intitial and main purpose of the trip is business/income producing and you work most of the time you are there.
Everything is deductible: all meals, accom., travel (airfare, buses, taxi, etc) and anything else associated with the business trip.
BTW, it is a business trip and not a working vacation. BIG HUGE DIFFERENCE![]()
A vacation isn't income producing and personal whereas a business trip is income producing. If you have ANY questions about tax please do drop me an email or phone call. If I cannot answer the question, I can easily consult my accountant. She is a top notch accountant (I pay good money for her for a reason).

Unfortunately she won't work with you as it is all based on net worth in order to work with her.... and one investment I made waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back (many many years ago) put me in the right net worth category so as I can use her...... HOWEVER.... when I come back home I will gladly ask her for a referral for you.
I made the investment thru her company as such hence the other reason they took me on.
It is PKF in Southport.

Details of an affordable open minded accountant (for adult/sex industry professionals), is Amanda Johnson at KA Solutions. Her office number is: 5585 2102 and her email is: [email protected]
This is a referral from my accountant. No you can't have my accountant She is all mine!! :-P My accountant works within PKF Solutions in Southport - just give them a bell to see if you qualify (as you must have a certain net worth to qualify) as a client.
These days you don't actually have to have an accountant in the same city as yourself so this recommendation is great for everyone across Australia.
