    Thumbs up Rave: Abs Diet

Okay, I suck at diets. I have no willpower. But I looooooove the Abs Diet. It's easy and yummy. Anytime I find myself gaining, I go back to following it closely and the weight drops off. In the past 2 weeks, I've dropped 5 pounds, which I consider respectable. And I'm eating all the freakin time. Things like smoothies and pizzas and casseroles. And it outlines what you can eat at different restaurants and fast-food places. Woot.

Anyone else ever try it? I can't be the only one.

What can you eat/not eat? Why does it work? The website isn't too helpful -- basically just a pitch for the book.

Yeah, that's the one (probably should have clarified earlier).

The idea is that you eat six times a day (no calorie counting), which keeps your metabolism going. I eat all the time and, due to the high-fiber and high-protein, I'm never starving or fantasizing about french fries. The diet permits no refined foods (no trans fat, high fructose corn syrup, refined sugars, etc) and encourages you to perform the weight-training schedule outlined in the book (3 days a week, with no inordinate craziness).

Other than that, there are the foods you should eat, the . The good thing is that they're all yummy, and they're all actual food (I don't care what they say, you can always taste the diet part of diet food). And I can eat bite-size milky ways after dinner if I want. The best? It allows a cheat meal every week, so I can still have my fave craves.

In all, it's pretty much just a healthy and simple way of eating that I try to do anyway. It just gives me more recipes and a shopping list to get there. And did I mention I can still have pizza? Yay, pizza!

Is it really possible for a diet to focus on your stomach fat though? I put on fat in my stomach area more than anywhere else (some flippin unfortunate genes, as I gather from all the apple bellies at family dinners). I thought this is just how it goes for some folks?

Spot reduction is not possible, as even the author makes clear in the book. And it is true that some people just have the genes to carry their fat in their stomachs (or their thighs. Thanks, Mom). The idea is that if you are able to follow the diet and exercise program, you will be able to reduce your body fat and make your abs visible, along with making the rest of the package look good. Not a miracle diet, but then agin, nothing is.

I have been on the 3 hr diet and yes you loose weight. I don't over eat because I eat every 3 hours. So this week I have lost 2lbs. It's not restrictive you just eat 3 healthy meals and 3 snacks in between (yogurt, fruit, tuna, cookies) I do ~150 calorie snacks. So far it has been working.

Well, for those who wish to try something other than the lipo diet, there is something else out there. And this is a good resource. Nothing new, but tried and true.

This sounds a lot like this diet/exercise program an ex and I went on, started by a weightlifter named Bill something. Naturally we called it "The Bill Plan", but I think it was called Body for Life.

It was actually pretty good, but geared more for a weightlifting-type approach. I gained some weight on it and liked it, but it failed miserably for the poor girl, I felt awful about that, but it was her idea.

Whatever--you could eat a lot, but it was about 6 smaller meals, and you had to work out every day but one, and that day you got to pig out, lol...

    <BUMP>

Sorry to bump but I just wanted to say how excited I am. The book finally became available at my library, so I went to go pick it up. I'm headed off to the library today. I'm so excited I'll probably start the diet today!

just removing those nasty partially hydrogenated oils and corn syrup alone will help your tummy.

i had never heard of this diet until i cut those 2 things out of mine...my tummy (which is my problem area..about the only place i gain) went down without any extra effort..

don't just look for "no trans fats"...look for any hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils...those are the killers! even though it says "no trans fats" it could be that there's so little trans fat that they are allowed to say "no trans fats"...i forget how much is allowed, it's a very small amount, but it's still there.

read EVERY label! It's in just about everything! i've had to change my margarine, my soups, even my tortillas! lol

It's .5 grams per serving. Anything under, they do not have to report. It's the answer to shortening, basically. Regular oils and shortening would not hold up on a shelf in the grocery store. Trans fats do. Icky.
