    Default Teleportation!!!

To see that this is possible is quite amazing.

It makes you wonder...practically everything we've wanted(means) as human beings throughout our existance in time has evolved and come through.

From plane, trains, automobile, cell phone, cpu, etc.

    and now this..

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Beaming people in Star Trek fashion is still in the realms of science fiction but physicists in Denmark have teleported information from light to matter bringing quantum communication and computing closer to reality.

Until now scientists have teleported similar objects such as light or single atoms over short distances from one spot to another in a split second.

But Professor Eugene Polzik and his team at the Niels Bohr Institute at Copenhagen University in Denmark have made a breakthrough by using both light and matter.

"It is one step further because for the first time it involves teleportation between light and matter, two different objects. One is the carrier of information and the other one is the storage medium," Polzik explained in an interview on Wednesday.

The advances in computing power is making a lot of previously impossible things possible, now.

If email didn't put the post office out of business, do you think easily available (and cheap) teleportation will? It will certainly change the way we fight wars. How do you stop the supply chain? It could come from anywhere to anywhere. A weapon could be "beamed" from the factory right to the soldier that needs it. Same with food and supplies. Damaged items could be "beamed" back and repaired quickly, w/o any loss of supply.

Okay, teleportation will likely destroy the human race. Or drive us back to hand to hand combat. What if you could use the device to disarm your enemy? Especially if you can focus the teleportation device on a single weapon or bomb. Everyone would be disarmed before one shot is ever fired.

Hmmmmm.... interesting future we have isn't it?

I'd rather experience life during the Victorian era so I can appreciate what we have today more, plus I am infatuated with that time era. It commonly seems that the simple things in life aren't appreciated anymore and everyone is looking for the next big thing as opposed to appreciating how far we have came and what we have in the moment.

You're thinking to small. Who needs armies when you can just beam a nuclear weapon into a city?

Or, you beam the weapons. Leave the soldiers behind.

On the up side, you could live in Colorado and work in Paris (I mean the cty), or any other global permutation.

Remember, warp engines and transporters made the Star Trek universe a happier one.

Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

Do you need one thing at one end and another at the other? 'cause if that's the case couldn't you 'unlock' your 'door' to someone else's 'door' to accept or reject things? Like if my friend wanted to come over my teleporter could beep and I could chose to accept or reject? Of course, there's always hackers.

But I'm thinking if you only need one thing to teleport it somewhere without an 'accepting' base, we're royally fucked in 50 years.

    The possibilities are endless

No really, i'd probably just use it for convenience...Like going to Thailand to dive for a day, or beaming into Mexico for some ceviche. Or maybe into the heights of the Himalayas without the steep climb. Ahh. So cool. No long figety flights in coach. No lugging bags. Just all the cool things about travel. It would be awesome.

We discussed this in metaphysics class before. I think the guy's name is Lewis Davidson, but which ever philosopher I read, he asked if people would really be ok with being essentially destroyed and then recreated somewhere else?

By his theory (i don't understand the physics around it, so I don't know) he said that teleportation could not move you through time as such. Rather it disassembles your various atoms and then reassembles atoms in another place to exactly replicate your atomic structure. So then the question he asks is, would this 'new' person still be you? He/she would have a body 100% identical to your own, and would possess all your memories, but your 'previous' self was in fact destroyed. It's basically identity semantics, but very interesting. Like if the process works this way, couldn't you be assembled in two places at once? And then who would be 'you'? Both? 'Identity' in the logial context doesn't allow for that. (Molly=Molly, or Dubya= George W. Bush, etc).

I dunno. I thought it was a cool argument (because he made it with an ethical agenda- he wanted people to see how feeling special empathy for their own 'bodies' and selves doesn't always make sense....I read it a while ago, but the ethics made sense for me...)

    No. No. That's a Stargate.

We wouldn't need to use it for war. Imagine what we could do if we just used it for shipping! Most of our fossil fuels are used, not by individuals driving cars, but in planes, ships and over-the-road hauling. If we could just beam everything from place to place, we would eradicate the vast majority of our fuel use, reducing emissions and greenhouse gases by an amazing amount. Not to mention the handiness of being able to transport goods into remote areas, emergency areas, foods from the coasts inland and vice versa, packaging, you name it. God, that'd be great! Sure, I doubt we'd eliminate the need for, say, store-to-store delivery for quite some time (assuming that it'd be expensive technology and not everyone would be able to just beam the TVs onto the shelf in Best Buy or whatever), but in major distribution centers and overseas, you bet. Just beam from one platform to another, load and go. If you needed to send a package priority, you take it to the local center and they hit a button! Instant delivery! That'd be awesome!
