Default This is sort of a poll, but not really......

..being close to Halloween and all, I was wondering if any of you have ever seen the film, "SHAUN OF THE DEAD"? It's British, funny, witty as hell and of course, a bit gory.
    But this is my opinion.

I am asking because besides being a part-time dancer, I am working for a film production company in LA. They have this script, that is a lot like "SHAUN OF THE DEAD" but with some political issues involved (it metaphoically is making fun of Bush). Horror films are making bank right now!

I am just having trouble attaching actors to this project. Oh, we do have funding, not a lot but respectable. And btw, last I checked Maggie Gylenhaal was getting $500,000 for World Trade Center. We are offering our lead roles that same amount...and they are passing !!

For those of you who saw "SHAUN", I would love to have opinions of any kind.

Liked that movie quite a bit. Very British. Droll. I seem to remember thinking it lost energy in the last third, but otherwise enjoyed it.

Shaun was fun...but look at the ACTORS in the film!~ Faces we're not too familiar with.

    Hmmmmm...There are many variables.
    1. Depends on what actors are attached.

    2. Who is directing it. (World Trade Center, by the way a TERRIBLE film but looks who's attached to it...Oliver Stone.) In an actors perspective what would you choose? Indie horror/comedy no name director/actors or WTC?-even though it sucked!<--but you wouldn't know at the time.

    3. Keep in mind they are getting tossed a bunch of scripts(attached are A-list stars/directors) and for them to pass up on this...If I were at their level, I would easily pass, I would rather work with a big name director. The only way I wouldn't is if the script is "oscar" worthy. Rarely, does a comedy/low budget horror taken seriously. It is not something you jump up on especially if it's an indie flick.

Also "Horror films are making bank right now!." Yes, they usually do on the month of Holloween BOO!~

Actors tend not to like horror movies, as they don't have much to do. Most horror movies (especially low-budget ones) have very one-dimensional characters, which actors don't like because it makes them look bad. An actor with Maggie Gyllenhaal's name and immense talent probably isn't even going to read a horror script; her agent will look at the genre and toss it without even mentioning it to her.

Yes, SOME horror movies make bank, but they're a cheap, corny way for newbies to cut their teeth. Some of them make money, and most of them don't. I could drive around Los Angeles today and find you at least fifteen low-budget horror flicks in production right this minute; MAYBE one of them might get a short theater release, another one might go straight to DVD, and the rest won't be seen by anyone but the director's friends. Actors know that.

Why don't you go with non-names? Anybody remember Blair Witch? What was the ROI for that guy? I don't remember, but it was huge!

One of our producers is a name screenwriter.

John Leguizame and Simon Baker were in that Day of the Dead movie. that is the caliber we are looking for.

Not a Brad Pitt or Angelina, LOL.

Also, I wasn't courting Maggie, just comparing her salary. Also, I didn't see WTC, but I heard it was kinda sucky.

Kinda sucky? That's complimenting the film. Oliver Stone has been goin downhill lately.

    Flight 93 was 10 x's better.

Simply answering poll: Saw "Shaun of the Dead" several times, love it - own it now, in fact.

I liked it too, so add me to the poll as a fan of the movie
