    Default Hair colouring concerns

Redken has offered me a free colouring at a salon of my wish, for free, but I'm not sure if I want to take the offer.
I've never really coloured my hair much before. I've used henna about 7 years ago and my hair started turning orange, and I dyed my hair with L'oreal Castings about 4 years ago and after a couple of weeks my hair went really dry and frizzy.

Naturally I have thick, dry, wavy/curly, frizzy hair. Lately it seems to be in great health though - no frizziness, and it seems to dry fairly straight after washing which it never really did. So I'm really scared that if I colour my hair, it'll do damage my hair and go back to being dry and frizzy.

Has anyone ever experienced this? It'll be salon done with Redken colouring of any colour of my choice, but I'm so worried it'll destroy my hair...but normally getting this done would cost me $140+ so I'm scared I'll kick myself if I don't get it done...

If you dye it darker, it actually makes your hair healthier.

Buuuuuut, Redken is not hypo-allergenic. I should know. *scratches*

If you don't want to color your hair, don't!
Even if it is free, you're still spending your time to have it done.

That said, I've got curly/frizzy hair, and I've had very good luck with the Redken semi-permanent colors. I used to get a great true red, occasionally a plum red from my stylist. It looked nice, and faded well (so there weren't any super-obvious roots). If you've been wanting to try some red tones or maybe add some rich brown color or something, go for it! I wouldn't recommend bleaching or lightening unless you're really gung-ho, though -- you either need to keep doing it or have a professional dye your hair back for it to look normal, and that can be expensive.

Simply, if you want to have a little fun with your color, go for it. And if you love your hair exactly how it is, don't. All you're losing is the potential for some lost time and potentially some irritation.

I work in a Redken salon. They're demi-permanent is awesome, leaves the hair really shiny and doesn't damage. It's great if you want to stay the same level (darkness) of color you already are or if you want to go darker.

Make sure the salon you decide to use is a true Redken salon that carries, sells, and uses Redken products exclusively. The staff tends to be better trained and more expierienced with Redken color at these salons. Also, if they're exclusive, they'll have knowledge of proper Redken coloring techniques which are WAYYY less damaging to the hair than traditional techniques, especially when you're comming in over time for retouches on your outgrowth.

You may want to ask about thier Chemistry System while you're there. It's a ten minute at the shampoo bowl, two step, deep penetrating and conditioning service that's custom made for your hairs needs. A combonation anti-frizz and color defense system will really help give you some managability and help your color go the extra mile for your buck. I'd also consider taking home the Smooth Down shampoo and conditioner to manage your hairs frizz and curls, and the Total Recharge which is light, leave in treatment that will help extend the life of your color.

Make sure to tell any stylist what you've used in the past on your hair. Henna, metallic colors, perms, and relaxers can cause big problems if you're stylist is unaware.

I use the All Soft line for my (curly, somewhat fine) hair, which is about perfect. Smooth Down was actually too moisturizing and over time it weighed my hair down and made it less curly. Of course, I don't ever straighten or blow-dry my hair, nor lighten it, so it doesn't need as much intensive care. A well trained Redken stylist can recommend the best line for a person to use. The products are pricier than what you'd get at the grocery store or Target, but it's so so very worth it. There's nothing like knowing that every day will be a good hair day.

I currently use Redken products on my hair - I think this has a lot to do with the reason why my hair isn't so frizzy. I use the Smooth Down Shampoo and Conditioner, and the Heat Glide hair serum for drying my hair.

I was thinking if I got the colouring done I would be trying to add maybe a red or chocolately type hue to my hair - but the thing is, I don't want to keep colouring my hair after this, I just want to do this for a change but not be one of those people who goes back every 6 weeks for touch ups etc, so it's good to know the regrowth won't be super obvious?

And omg...I just found a WHITE HAIR. Perhaps it's a sign I should get it done!
