Default Oh boy, here we go again...North Korea

When is the last time someone tested a nuclear missle/bomb?

"SEOUL, South Korea (CNN) -- North Korea on Monday claimed it has performed a successful nuclear test, according to that country's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

South Korean government officials also said North Korea performed its first nuclear test, the South's Yonhap news agency reported.

The apparent nuclear test was conducted at 10:36 a.m. (0136 GMT) in Hwaderi near Kilju city, Yonhap reported, citing defense officials.

"The field of scientific research in the DPRK (North Korea's official name) successfully conducted an underground nuclear test under secure conditions on October 9 ... at a stirring time when all the people of the country are making a great leap forward in the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation," KCNA reported."

Comes as no surprise to me. Ever since the GW Bush pulled the USA out of the ABM Treaty and adopted a preemptive war mentality these kinds of events have been in the works. They see it as being prepared and an act of self defense. Considering how the war in Iraq came to be ( Downing Street Memo for example) and how things have been going there, well I can't say I blame them for wanting to be better prepared. It won't be the last country to do so either I am quite sure. Welcome back to a new Cold War type situation.

Maybe China will start taking them seriously at last.

China is the answer to this problem. Lets hope GW recognizes that.

Just what we need - another nuclear power in the world willing to light one off.

So you are saying that France or England are behaving as badly as North Korea.

    That's an interesting perspective.

    Ah yea. George's fault.

When the little fat man shoots another one off in the next election - who will you ever get to blame?

I suppose it would depend on the situation. I would look at the big picture and base my opinion on all the available facts just as I have done with this situation.

If you disagree with my assesment , fine by me. We are all entitled to our opinions.

Well, long enough it isn't the little fat man actually shooting off nukes I suppose.

    Your point being?

NK has nothing to loose with the US because we won't talk with them.

With China they do have something to loose. China is not happy about this either.

You smile? Is that because you are Anti-American? Or simply anti-western? Or [fill in blank here]?

Because I sure don't know what there is to smile about.

We should talk to them. We aren't going to get anywhere unless we do. Things will just get more strained if we don't.

They have alot to lose if China gets heavy with them that true. They would lose most of their food and oil. But China isn't likely to do that in my opinion.

I mean to say that it is every one else's fault except for Kim Jong Il for the nuclear bomb going off. Bush, Republicans, Neocons... blah blah blah. Anyone and everyone except for the man who gave the order to ignite the nuke.

What the fuck for? We have nothing to gain from there. The man barely can keep his people fed. All we do is legitize him as worthy to speak to the US.

He is a bully hurling threats and insults at our back. Then he started throwing rocks. Now he is igniting firecrackers and warning us he will use them.

Most people realize when they don't want to be spoken to, don't go out of their way to threaten and point a gun at a person they want to speak to them.

He is a bit like a stalker - but towards the whole f'in country.

We shall see who's opinions win out then shalt we?

True, I wouldn't be surprised if China rolled the little fat guy for his country one night.

That would be an interesting evening, I can't think of anyone that would stand up for Kim Jong Il if that happened.
