    Default wine or pill?

    I have trouble sometimes relaxing at night and was wondering if it's better take a sleeping pill or have a glass of wine for relaxation. This is not a every night thing because I am usually exhausted when I work but sometimes when I don't I am pretty wired up at night and was wondering what you guys thought about it?

    I don't think wine really helps with sleep, though it can help you feel relaxed. Any alcohol actually can make you irritable and interfere with a good night's sleep.

    Occasionally I will take an antinauseant such as Gravol because the Dimenhydrinate really helps me sleep well - relaxes me quickly, and no groggy hungover feeling upon waking if I take just one. It may be habitforming, but it's not addictive. That works best for me!

    Neither. A hot bath or hot shower should help you. Also if you are wired, you can try to find some grounding exercises to do so as to "ground" your energy and thus you won't feel so wired... just a suggestion.

    Maybe look into aromatheraphy to help you relax as well. There are plenty of ways to help you relax that don't involve alcohol or pills which are both ulimately (IMO) last resorts.

    I thought exercise would wire me more but I will try doing my pilates next time. I currently sitting here with a glass of wine as I am typing getting hungry, lol. I just feel anxious but I hate taking benzos or benadryl.

    ^ I second the benadryl thing. I got strung out on them for a time. After a while I had to keep taking more and more so I could sleep. An ex of mine also suffered liver damage due to taking Tylenol PM for a prolonged period.

    I've had smoker cough lately, and have been downing a cup of Nyquil the last few days. Otherwise, this cough and my mind keeps me up way too late...like I need to go to bed now! Definately not something to do regularly though........

    well I think something more natural would be a better option.. I have problems almost every night trying to fall asleep so I take a dietary supplement called super snooze w/melatonin from Puritan's Pride. That always does the trick.

    I suggest Melatonin or a hot bath with lavendar. Thats what works for me.

    Cheesey, but classic - warm milk. I like mine with some honey, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
