    Default Advice for Auditions?

Hello ladies, I'm new here. I'm so glad I found this place!

I'm 18 years old, and I plan on auditioning at The Seville Club in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a topless cabaret where you're supposed to wear gowns, and there are no poles. I plan on buying an outfit for the audition, but I don't know exactly what to look for. The gown type of strip clubs, do they expect you to wear floor length dresses? Something like ? Or would something shorter, like , be more appropriate? I don't want to over-do it and show up prom style, yet I don't want to look, um, under-dressed. If you know what I mean.

Also, I've never danced a step in my life (aside from messing around in my room). I've been to one strip club before (Schiek's Palace Royal), and I observed the dancers' every move. Is there a certain way to dance without looking too cheesy? The sluttier the better? Since The Seville Club is one of the classier places, I'm not sure how far I can go without looking like too much. Keep in mind, there's no pole. Just slow, sensual moves . . . ?

I can't think of anything else right now. If there's any advice you have for a first timer at her audition, please tell me! Thanks!!

Scurvette, welcome to SW. Many of your questions have already been answered through the thread and posts of the various sections. Be sure to check out Hustle Hut and Stripping General as well as this Newbie section for tons of advice.

Most basic advice for stage dancing is slow = sensual. Take your time and be seductive. Another words don't go up there and club dance. As far as actual moves and routines you may first want to ask the club's manager if there are any policies or rules regarding stage performances. We have a local gown club in my area which markets itself as being upscale and they also have no stage poles. Most of the dancers just walk around and move, pose and sway slowly to the music. They are fairly limited in what they can do because the club has a policy of not alowing any floor work, and they even fine the girls for bending over too far. So like I said, it may be best to first learn what rules you'll be working under, and then people may be better able to give you feedback on ideas you can try within that framework.

You may also want to check out a local book store for: The S Factor. You can find it under the excercise and fitness section, where you'd find books on yoga. It's a pretty good book for newbies and you may be able to get some movement ideas from it.

In terms of your dress, I think the most "gown clubs" the first example was what I would expect to see in a place like that. A floor length gown. You mentioned going to another SC once, well I'd recommend you pop your head into Seville to see what the other dancers are wearing, and get an overall feel for the place.

    Best of luck!

Not to be a nag, but if it were me....

I would consider going to a smaller *should I say less upscale?* club first, at least for a couple of shifts. When I first started, I had difficulty organizing my time up on stage to last three songs without feeling anxious, bored, and out of moves....and we had poles. I could imagine dancing in those shoes on that stage with no poles....*shiver*

Also, the custy convo is even more important (imo again) than the stage dancing. And you will be likely dealing with educated business men. So, again, hone your skills on some day shift business men at your "starter" club. The hardest part for me is figuring out how to talk to custys on a guy-by-guy basis. Some guys wanna talk about raunchy junk, others are very polite and like a polite, classy dancer and conversation likewise.

In a nutshell, I would rather learn the basics with less pressure before having a crash course in gown and wiggly ankles.

But if you're up to it, you have my best wishes (and my praise---hats off to ya!!!)

    Good luck!

Something that should be mentioned about gown clubs - they're usually pretty strict with what you're allowed to wear. Most gown clubs that I'm familiar with don't allow any gowns with see-thru sections, and some go further than that and don't allow any glitter and/or patterns - solid colors only. At most of these kinds of clubs, I don't think that first dress would be an option. Most girls usually wear something like this or this.

As for shoes, they typically require a 4 inch stiletto with no more than an inch of platform and will not allow "typical stripper shoes." That can be a good thing though, especially if you don't have a pole to hold on to on stage.

I'm sure these rules vary from club to club, this is just what I've come across. Definitely call the club in advance and they'll be more than happy to tell you exactly what you need to bring for an audition. Tell us how it goes and good luck!
