    Default My new baby! :D

    Isn't he cuuuute? Haha.

I haven't named him yet. He likes to climb on the side of his cage so I thought of naming him 'Koala'. He's only four months old and is already learning to talk so if I handle it right I'm going to train him to say "I'm a koala" while hanging.

He's still at the petstore, but he's already paid for. Since I'm going to Rockhampton for work for a week, he's gonna need to be in a nice place while I'm away. The store is going to hand train him more for me during that week.

However confusing the indigenous life forms of Australia are, a koala is, in fact, a mammal. What you have there, however, is what we ornithologists call a bird. What in some foreign language or another, I don't recall which, is refered to as a budgie. They differ from koalas primarily by not being...., well,.... mammals.

But, yeah, I guess it's a cute name.
"He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

    That is SOOO CUTE!

BTW, aren't there all kinds of crazy pets you can get if you live in Australia? I heard Paris Hilton had some dog thing that would sit on her shoulder??

My daughter has two parakeets. One all white one that is a sweetheart, and one green/yellow one that is Satan incarnate. I tried taming him down for about a month and then stopped because the screaming chirps and biting were getting old. I've thought about getting rid of the mean one, but the other one seems so happy with the cagemate interaction. What's a good way to mellow one out that wasnt handraised?

Baby birds are precious. I am always so cuted out by the ones that people get when they're REALLY little, and spend a lot of time hand-taming. I've met a few that were so well-tamed that they'd do things like sit on their owner's cereal bowls in the morning or on the side of the sink while their owners were brushing their teeth. Congratulations!

Congrats on the new baby- Budgies can build really large vocabularies so you're gonna have a lot of fun for sure

I have a senagalese parrot named Oscar, and he is the best pet EVAR. I feel in love with him 10 years ago when he was just a little ball of pin feathers... raised the money by doing odd jobs around the neighborhood and then took him home once he was weaned. He is such a great pet- and the best part is I get to look forward to another 20 years of him.

I originally wanted a conure or lorikeet, but this budgie stole my heart! He's already learning to talk and he still has pins! When I'm not on my phone, I'll point you to a great bird training site. The bird with the highest recorded vocabulary was a budgie!

Cockatiels are really fun! Mine is such a brat, though.

He also likes doing the sexy whistle when you get naked...no joke. I don't know how he figured that out because I sure didn't teach him to do that (when people get naked, that is).

You don't pick your bird. They pick you. I was supposed to get a lovebird! When you in to the place, find a bird you bond with...Don't just in for pretty colours.

You can train them well. I thought mine was four months but he's actually six weeks! He's already mumbling!

Been through the bit with the budgies. I still prefer cats, then dogs.

Gotta funny story about teaching a budgie to talk….

Many years ago, my mother purchased one, and began to do all the things new bird owners do, getting her used to us, and teaching her to talk. Well she had been trying for weeks to get that bird to say hello. Finally it was starting to talk.... then the phone rang. My mother said “Oh Shit!!” and answered the phone.... telling the bird to shut up. The bird then promptly said, “Oh shit!! Shut up!!” It was horrible... ROFLMAO we all did. So how did the bird stop talking?

Well a few days later the bird got out and some how found its way into our Doberman’s mouth. The last words it uttered were “Oh Shit!” ... then never more did it say another word. There was no physical damage to this scarred bird, it just never spoke again.... for at least 12 more years.
