    Default Valium Side Effects?

I was wondering if anyone has been on valium and what your side effects were while on it? I`m mainly concerned with change in appatite, or weight loss or gain. Also i`m concerned about being sleepy, am i going to want to pass out or will i just be really mellow? I was on Ativan before and i didn`t have any problems with that but then again it didn`t help me either.

Oh and another thing i was concerned about was if it effects your skin or makes you break out at all? I havn`t been able to find anything about it and my dr. didn`t think it would be a prolem but i`m paranoid about my skin.

Usually just mellow, relaxed, depening on how much you take. Just be careful with that shit.

I just get mellow and relaxed but I only take 5-10 mg only when needed.

I noticed that my overall energy level was low. I was constantly tired whether I had currently taken a pill or not. Maybe because my liver was working overtime???

Also, it can constipate you. I think most of you girls who have had surgeries can vouch that most doctors make you take laxatives, cause pills will constipate you.

But I did not notice changes in weight or skin problems.

PM me. Even if I can't get back to you right away, I will. If I didn't have medical insurance, rehabilatation would have been muy expensive. I also had the worst panic attacks of my life due to withdrawl.

Well, I was only on it for a couple of times, for heavy dental work. It seemed to have a "carryover hangover" effect for the next day or so. Really, I was kinda glad to come out of it, altho I was very glad to have it for the dental work. When I saw this thread, I thought of the book, "I'm dancing as fast as I can" about a lady's addiction to it.

I've taken it several times, as well as ativan. I just always found myself lethargic. I'd wake up with a heavy head, and it'd take me several hours to wake up completely. No skin effects, no weight effects.

Be careful though. I can't remember if it's the same with valium, but on ativan, your tolerance develops quite quickly, eventually i'd give myself so much just to try and get the effect, I OD'd. And that wasn't fun. A lot of sleep though!

Thanks for the info miabella. That is kind of discoraging being that i have a high tolerance to ativan already. Guess that is why im asking so many questions about the valium. I hope i don`t develop the same tolerance (or none effectiveness) with the Valium.

Does anyone think i should ask my dr. about xanax or something different or is that just worse???

Thats a very big question, no-one can really answer that for you. Especially since no-one here knows what your reasons are for wanting to take anything anyway.
I suggest doing alot of indepth reading about all your options including alternatives to drugs and then decide. Prescription drug addiction and / or wthdrawal is not a fun thing! If your problems are minor or then you really might want to weigh up the odds of taking drugs to mask the problem that possibly time may cure. Only you know how you feel though, but best to make an informed choice either way.

Valium side effects and withdrawal symptons.

Side effects most commonly reported were drowsiness, fatigue and ataxia; venous thrombosis and phlebitis at the site of injection. Other adverse reactions less frequently reported include: CNS: confusion, depression, dysarthria, headache, hypoactivity, slurred speech, syncope, tremor, vertigo. GI: constipation, nausea. GU: incontinence, changes in libido, urinary retention. Cardiovascular: bradycardia, cardiovascular collapse, hypotension. EENT: blurred vision, diplopia, nystagmus. Skin: urticaria, skin rash. Other: hiccups, changes in salivation, neutropenia, jaundice. Paradoxical reactions such as acute hyperexcited states, anxiety, hallucinations, increased muscle spasticity, insomnia, rage, sleep disturbances and stimulation have been reported; should these occur, use of the drug should be discontinued. Minor changes in EEG patterns, usually low-voltage fast activity, have been observed in patients during and after Valium therapy and are of no known significance.

In peroral endoscopic procedures, coughing, depressed respiration, dyspnea, hyperventilation, laryngospasm and pain in throat or chest have been reported.

Because of isolated reports of neutropenia and jaundice, periodic blood counts and liver function tests are advisable during long-term therapy.

Withdrawal symptoms, similar in character to those noted with barbiturates and alcohol (convulsions, tremor, abdominal and muscle cramps, vomiting and sweating), have occurred following abrupt discontinuance of diazepam. The more severe withdrawal symptoms have usually been limited to those patients who had received excessive doses over an extended period of time. Generally milder withdrawal symptoms (eg, dysphoria and insomnia) have been reported following abrupt discontinuance of benzodiazepines taken continuously at therapeutic levels for several months. Consequently, after extended therapy, abrupt discontinuation should generally be avoided and a gradual dosage tapering schedule followed. Addiction-prone individuals (such as drug addicts or alcoholics) should be under careful surveillance when receiving diazepam or other psychotropic agents because of the predisposition of such patients to habituation and dependence.
