    Default "The Island"

Did any of you guys see that movie "The Island", I watched it last night and thought it was pretty intense. So, what do you think of cloning for body parts?

I liked The Island well enough.

I'm fine with cloning for body parts. It'd be excellent for tissue and organ replacement; no more having to wait on a donor's list. Just grow and go!

I'm also fine with cloning people. Sure, some might say, "But wouldn't it be weird knowing someone exactly like you was walking around?" Yeah, well, I'm an identical twin. I'm used to it.

Am I fine with cloning people for their body parts, a la "The Island"? No, gotta draw the line there. Not that I see that becoming reality anytime soon.

It was based on "Clonus: The (Body) Parts Horror" A fine "Mystery Science Theater 3K" selection.
Or as Tom Servo put it, "The secret of Taco Bell meat."

I saw it, and it really wierded me out for a few days. I actually had to watch again lately in my Ethics class for university. Had a whole two class periods devoted to cloning and such. Pretty heated discussions. I did like the movie though.

    Saw and loved it.

It is rare for me to find a movie where there is good twist since so many films are formulated these days. The last film I saw prior to "The Island" that had a twist that I didn't see coming was "Life of David Gale." Which like "The Island" also provides a moral issue to consider.

    What she said ^

It was entertaining and provoked some thoughts about morals influence etc.

I liked it, but did not think about it like you guys did. It was just a movie.

Good sci-fi flick at the beginning, then it devolved into your typical Michael Bay car chase, blow shit up movie.

    Scarlett Johannsen was hot though.

Michael Bay sucks. Scarlett Johansson is a goddess.

It had Scarlett Johannsen in lots of tight clothing. How bad could it have been?

I liked it, although the person I was with did not. I had no idea any plot twist was coming- I was assuming that they got picked to go to an island, and the movie would deal with all the bad things happening on it.

I kinda knew what was coming. I think it was based on an old sci-fi novel I read as a kid. Really can't remember what it was though, I was a lil nerd who read everything. The story felt familiar from the get-go.

As for cloning body parts. We should be seeing this happen in our lifetimes. However, the science fiction part of the movie is that we would have to grow an entire human just for the parts. Thats not the case. Remember when scentists grew a human ear on the back of a mouse? If anything we'll be growing new parts on animals, which is another moral issue to itself. Some things, like new skin, can be grown in a dish and is already happening today.
